Vasciano Nove is an old stone farmhouse in serene hills with its own private pool in olive grove & mature garden. The house, one of a small group, has an individual feel with a sense of beauty and calm. The garden offers privacy and several shaded eating areas. It overlooks lovely old olive terraces, fields, rolling hills, oak woods and valleys with ancient tracks in all directions. The location provides a choice of complete relaxation, physical activities or intellectual stimulation and is in a designated area of outstanding natural beauty . The nearest village is 10 mins by car. There is easy access to restaurants, wine tasting, art, architecture, medieval hill top towns, Etruscan sites, panoramic views, Lake Trasimeno and its islands. There are many outdoor activities, fashion outlets, shopping, markets, festivals, sulphur springs/spas. Rome, Florence easily reached by train for the day. Optional access to starter pack of provisions. Our local agent speaks fluent English and we have a reliable staff team to look after the house , pool and garden

The house is great and very well équiped. The garden and the swimling pool are fabulous. If you are looking for a quiet place go for it! Reading a book under the figs and olive trees is Very relaxing. The instructions are very clear and the people looking after the house are discret and Nice. The children were very happy. We can see the hard work that has been done since 1990.

Quiet retreat
Three of us stayed at Vasciano 9 for two weeks. A wonderfully curated traditional tuscan farmhouse just the right size for our little group. The vision and execution of the gardens are exceptional. There are so many thoughtful spots to rest and enjoy. And, the pool, is soooooo nice after a day walking around the local towns. The owners have a complete set of notebooks introducing local businesses and necessities. A very special experience.

A lovely haven
Vasciano is a lovely haven and Hilary a thoughtful and responsive host. The house is charming and well-equipped. The garden is a real joy, mature and well-maintained - the photos do not do it justice - with banks of flowers, the pool set apart, table in different locations and a built-in barbecue. The situation is peaceful with some local views. Given the rural location, few journeys other than to the nearest village are less than half an hour; there are attractions in every direction, though staying put is also very appealing! Highly recommended for a family or small group.

Beautiful, secluded stay in Umbria
We had a wonderful week - the sort of place you almost don't want to tell people about in case everyone discovers it! Beautiful garden, pool, views, well-equipped and spacious farmhouse which was ideal for our family. All communication was perfect and lots of helpful information in advance and at the house. Klassiek huis in de heuvels
Prima contact met eigenaren. Huis ligt op prachtige plek. De weg (rough road) naar het huis is echter heel slecht. Je zit daardoor ver van winkel/bakker etc.

Nice holiday
We traveled as a family of three and had a great stay. The villa is very well equipped and lovingly restored and has a beautiful well maintained garden. The Pool was fantastic. We had some small issues with insects around the pool, but the owner helped us to find some solutions quickly. We did some kovely trips to nearby historic villages. Great holiday.

La casa è bellissima, la tenuta anche, la piscina eccezionale. Noi purtroppo siamo stati sfortunati con gli insetti, una invasione di tafani ha reso il nostro soggiorno poco piacevole, inoltre la strada per raggiungere la casa è accidentato. Consiglierei questa casa a chi cerca relax e vita a contatto con la natura in un ambiente rurale ed esclusivo!

Fabulous garden! Swimmingpool with stunning view. Totally charming farmhouse. Very well equipped kitchen. Don’t let the drive of the last kilometer to the house scare you of: It is a steep climb on an uneven road (for a Dutch driver anyway), but totally worth it!

Home and garden of tranquility
Vasciano is an extraordinary home and garden, reflective of years of care and creation by Hillary and Jack. If it’s a relaxing stay you’re after in a secluded rural retreat offering a house of rustic comfort and character, set in a gem of a garden with pool, Vasciano is perfect. (Some grading of the access road would make it extra perfect!)

Best holiday home I've ever had.
The farmhouse is great, the rooms are well furnished and the kitchen is really well equipped. But the the best of all is the fantastic garden with the awesome view. We enjoyed the stay and fell in love with the house, the garden , the peaceful atmosphere, the delecious food, the tasty regional wines and there friendly Umbrian people. We surely will come back.

Tranquil getaway in the Umbrian countryside
My family of 3 had an incredible week at this beautiful restored farmhouse. The pictures simply do not do it justice. I have traveled extensively and stayed at some beautiful places but the setting of this farmhouse could not have been lovelier. In addition, both the owner and the property manager were great to work with and very responsive, both prior to our stay as well as during our time there. If you just want a place to hang out and relax or looking to take day trips to the many beautiful villages and towns in the surrounding area, you will not be disappointed.

Beautiful, peaceful house in the hills
Vasciano is simply a fantastic place to stay. It is a beautiful location on the Tuscany-Umbrian border, down a quiet track. It has fantastic views and a wonderful salt pool. It is peaceful and still - perfect for getting away from the rush of everyday life. The house is also well stocked with furniture, books, games, crockery and glassware; the kitchen is a pleasure to cook in. Hilary was excellent at offering advice and there are lots of things to do nearby. We really appreciated her telephone call to check that we had arrived safely. The garden is extremely well kept, and I cannot think of a nicer place to sit and read books for hours on end. Thanks for sharing your lovely house with us - we will certainly be back!

Impeccable
Nous avons passé 2 semaines splendides à Vasciano. Les photos du site sont tout-à-fait fidèles à la réalité et, en réalité, parlent d'elles-mêmes... Le gîte est vraiment parfait pour les amateurs de calme et de nature, qui pourront s'y ressourcer en contemplant les collines ombriennes depuis le jardin très soigneusement entretenu. Mais convenons que ce serait dommage de séjourner en Ombrie sans visiter Assises, Perugia, Gubbio, Cortona, le lac Trasimène et tant d'autres splendides endroits à découvrir dans la région. La piscine est vraiment géniale et, à vrai dire, bien nécessaire en été, où il peut faire très chaud: nos enfants en ont bien profité, c'est clair. Que dire de plus sinon que la maison est très bien équipée, dans un style très fidèle à sa construction d'origine: rien ne manque et les propriétaires ont absolument tout fait pour rendre le séjour de leurs locataires agréable. Bref, une adresse hautement recommandable, dans laquelle nous serions heureux de revenir un jour. Encore merci à Hilary et Jack pour leur excellent accueil et leur suivi très professionnel. A little bit of pure heaven
I was searching for a retreat on the Tuscan / Umbrian border and wanted something authentic and peaceful. My heart stopped as I approached the house ...it was everything and more than I had hoped for! Villa Vasciona is set in the hills with spectacular views, a wonderful garden with many, almost secret hideaways in which to sit and relax ...and of course a stunning pool. Hilary and Jack had anticipated every traveller's need and their obvious love for their home in Italy makes this a perfect holiday destination. The Villa is withing easy reach of all the wonderful Italian cities and hill top towns on our visiting list and we enjoyed returning in the early evening for a swim in the pool , supper in the garden and watching the fireflies dance in the moon light. Simply perfect! It was so hard leaving it after three weeks of heaven!

Ein wunderschönes altes Haus mit einem paradiesischem Garten
Wir haben uns in Vaciano 9 ungeheuer wohl gefühlt. Das Haus selbst hat alles und noch viel mehr, was man für einen perfekten Urlaub braucht, der wunderschöne Garten bietet für jede Tageszeit ein Plätzchen, an dem es sich wohl sein lässt, das große Schwimmbad sorgt für ein luxuriöses Gefühl und in etwa jeweils einer Stunde erreicht man all die vielen Sehenswürdigkeiten, die Nordumbrien zu bieten hat. Es ist einfach unglaublich, was Hilary und Jack Lance innerhalb von nahezu 30 Jahren aus einem verfallenen Bauernhaus und einer Brache gezaubert haben.

Relaxing rural retreat
This was our third stay at Vasciano Nove, and we come back for a reason. It's a charming, well-equipped and welcoming house, with a fabulous garden and pool. It's within easy striking distance of Sienna, Perugia and other places, which we've done in the past. This time, we did nothing but relax, swim and read.

Wonderful property on the Tuscan/Umbrian border.
We had a wonderful week in this lovely property. We have stayed in many places and this one was extremely well equipped. The house was lovely and the garden just magnificent. The garden and pool were immaculate and well maintained. It was very convenient for lots of interesting places. Our favourite Cortona was just half an hour away but Arezzo, Perugia and Montepulciano were all within easy driving distance. We mainly ate out at lunch time and in the evenings we found that the best place to be was the terrace. Wonderful bird song and later on the fireflies. We found nothing to fault about this place and my only regret is that I didn't have enough time to read any more books. There were lots and lots there. It was a wonderful place for a calm and relaxing holiday. We would love to come back and it just remains to thank Hilary and Jack for lending us this peace of heaven for a while. Tom & Julie

A relaxing retreat in beautiful countryside
We spent a fabulous two weeks at Vasciano Nove and loved every minute. This rustic villa is away from it all, though not totally secluded, so you won’t feel completely isolated. There is an attached property (owned by another couple), which was also let during one of our weeks, but the layout of the gardens/villas is such that you can enjoy your privacy. The pool, set at the other end of the stunning garden, is incredible and you won’t want to leave. There are plenty of sun loungers, tables and chairs and pool towels are provided, which is another bonus. Time spent relaxing and listening to the gentle hum of honeybees on the lavender and watching swallowtail butterflies was heaven. Seating areas under fig and walnut trees provide welcome shade for family meals or you can sit under the vines just outside the house and spot lizards darting about or watch the hoopoes on the lawn. If you’re very lucky (and we were!) you might even see a red squirrel, which made an appearance a couple of times and a hare. There are bats at dusk and magical fireflies as well as a nightly lullaby(!) from frogs somewhere close by. A nightingale was still singing during our first week and we were treated to the purr of turtledoves and of course the beautiful dawn chorus. We went for a few early morning walks and were thrilled to see deer and a boar with her four piglets; sadly no porcupines or pine martens. There’s an amazing selection of books on flora and fauna, as well as books/information on the local area, maps, novels, DVDs, CDs and games. The beds are comfortable and having two singles in the middle room, which can be made up as a large double was really lovely. The villa is extremely well kitted out. Assisi, Cortona and Perugia are all wonderful places to visit for day trips and there is so much to explore. A couple of fantastic restaurants, only a short drive from the villa are Restorante I Girasoli Di Sant’Andrea as well as the adjacent winery/vineyard where you can buy olive oil and delicious wines and Le Capannine di Sommavilla – both too good to miss! If you love peace and quite, nature and places slightly off the beaten track then Vasciano is the villa for you. Hilary and Jack have worked tremendously hard to make it the perfect home from home with an unbelievably gorgeous garden. Replies to e-mails were always prompt and everything was very well organised. We do hope we can come back another time.
