Haven in the Clouds
The property is well maintained and easy to access, assuming you have a vehicle that can handle mountain switchback roads. The driveway is steep, but it connects three properties so you can find a way in and out. The cabin is well furbished and comfy. It does come with a lot of rules, and that made it difficult to fully enjoy the space, as I was constantly worried if we (meaning my son) had moved furniture or wiped the tables good enough. The jack and jill bathroom worked for our family of three and the two bedrooms were comfy and warm. The porch out in the trees was the real star of the property, and I was sad to be there during freezing temps because I just wanted to sit on the porch and enjoy the beautiful atmosphere. The kitchen is extremely well-stocked and furnished. The property does not provide salt/pepper, oil, coffee, etc., but the Family Dollar and Allsups have enough to choose from and also, previous renters have left a lot of these items. I would check the cabinets before making a shopping list. There is so much to do in and around Cloudcroft! We drove to Alamogordo to the White Sands (even in early March I can now say dress for a beach like temperature in the dunes), drove to the Bluff Springs Waterfall, had coffee at High Rollin’ Cafe, thoroughly enjoyed shopping along the Burro Street Exchange (visit Noisy Waters Winery!), and took advantage of the scenic views. Even my 4-year-old stayed mostly entertained. Beware the town is mostly open Wednesday-Sunday. We learned the hard way, as we arrived on Sunday and left Wednesday. We would visit again.
