About this property

Just Renovated! Sauna, Family Friendly w/ Game Room and Great Views - Gold Trail Retreat

Gold Trail Retreat offers maximum relaxation and fun. Hopefully you'll take time to experience a little peace and tranquility while you're here. The home is surrounded by Spruce, Pine and Aspen Trees. It is secluded and heavily wooded. The area is a popular hiking and climbing location. There are five "fourteeners" within about 20 minutes of the home- Mount Sherman, Mount Lincoln, Mount Democrat, Mount Bross, and Mount Quandary. There are multiple old mines along many of the hiking trails going up the 14ers. The cabin is about 20 miles south of Breckenridge and within an hour of numerous white water rafting launching points.

The home has 3 bedrooms. There is one bedroom with a king size bed and another bedroom with a queen size bed on the main level. There is a shared full size bath on this level. Downstairs there is a third bedroom that has 2 full beds. The large recreation room has a television, lots of comfy seating and toys for the kiddos. There is a full size futon bed in the rec room too. A large game table is provided to work on your favorite jig-saw puzzle or play your favorite game. There is a shared full bath on this lower level as well with a shower/tub combo. There is a new 4-6 person cedar barrel sauna available. This is a great place to relax after a day of skiing or hiking. The home also has a new Foosball table which is a great activity for the entire family. The kids and adults alike will love playing this game.

Gold Trail Retreat is only 25 miles from the 5 star ski resort of Breckenridge. It has world-class skiing and boarding. There is also snowmobiling, sleigh rides, ice skating, alpine tubing, and much more. Keystone and A-basin are also only a short drive from the home and offer additional world-class skiing. As mentioned it is very close to many of the 14'ers which so many people come to Colorado to climb. Whether you are a climber or casual hiker, the area has beautiful trails to enjoy right from the property. If you are not into hiking, there are always horses to ride, white-water to conquer on a raft, snow shoe trails, cross country skiing, and many many other activities to challenge each and every person. If you are just into beautiful drives, there are many that we can recommend with old mines and pioneer towns to explore. There is fabulous outlet mall shopping in nearby Silverthorne where you can shop and pick up any supplies and clothing that you need for your adventures. It is just an awesome place to stay. There is no hustle and bustle and absolutely NO traffic and traffic noise. You are close enough to the activities to enjoy them if you want but far enough away to have your own peace and solitude.

The area has so much to offer in the way of activities. In the summer, there is horseback riding right down highway 9 at the Platte River Ranch. They have 2 hour rides, half day rides, and dinner rides. It is a great place for the family to go and ride through the forest and mountain meadows. They give you a true old West experience. There is fishing very near the property. There are several spots and parks near the home where you can fish. Hiking trails are all around in the Pike National Forest. Many of the famous 14'ers are in this area like Mt. Sherman, Mt. Lincoln, Mt. Bross, Mt. Democrat, and the Buffalo Peaks. If you like ATVing, bring them along and there are many many areas to ride in like Breakneck and Browns Pass and 4-Mile ATV park. Mosquito Pass Road is very very close to the home and you can ride right over Mosquito Pass into Leadville where there are 100's of old mines to explore. You can even ride right into town and enjoy lunch or dinner at some of the quaint refurbished mining town restaurants. There are lots of antique shops to explore as well. It is an awesome day trip.

If you like outlet shopping, Silverthorne is only a short drive and has great shops. Breckenridge also has dozens of great unique shops. Just call us and we can point you toward the nearest ghost town or hiking trail. Be sure to visit the restored 1800's mining town of South Park which is right in Fairplay. It is truly a must see!

Review Gold Trail Retreat

Wonderful place!! We had such a great time. Kids loved the foosball, kitchen had all needed appliances, we often ate on the balcony. My personal favorites were the many windows allowing great views and the wood burning stove. Thanks!!

Great cabin in a quiet and peaceful location with an amazing barrel sauna!

We had an incredible weekend relaxing at Gold Trail Retreat. A quiet and peaceful location deep in the woods that is fully stocked with everything we needed including foosball for the kids and an amazing outdoor cedar barrel sauna. Great deck for grilling and relaxing. Close to hiking trails, fishing, four wheeling and 10 minutes to town.

Me and my family had a blast days at this house, we luck to see snow dropping. The house very comfortable, nice and clean everything you need has in the house. Just make sure to get a 4wd car in winter time, it's one hour drive from attractions. I definitely will back to stay in the same house.

Great getaway!!

We had such a great time at this cabin! The kids loved playing outside and we enjoyed the sauna at night! We realized it takes about an hour to warm up, so we started it right before dinner and it was ready when we were done. We also had moose and deer walk right through the property!! We will definitely be back!!

Overall, a good local staycation

The property was as expected, we enjoyed the open space in the home and the supplies provided in the Kitchen to make great meals. There's a grill outside and plenty of pots, pans and dishes for you to use. The drive up and down can be challenging due to the condition of the road, you'll definitely want something that can handle the bumps.

The Perfect Getaway

As a family we love secluded cabins and this one has been by far the best one! We are from Texas so we wanted to get away and experience the snow and this cabin and area did not disappoint. The only issue we had was a little bit of altitude sickness so we recommend to hydrate and maybe purchase some supplemental oxygen if you are prone to altitude sickness. It was also the perfect distance to Breckenridge. We will definitely be coming back.

Great mountain getaway!

We recently stayed at Gold Trail Retreat and it was an incredible experience. The location was perfect, nestled in the trees with stunning views of the surrounding peaks. The house itself was modern, well-appointed and spacious, with comfortable furnishings and all the amenities needed for a relaxing and enjoyable stay. The outdoor spaces were the highlight of the rental, with a large deck that was perfect for taking in the mountain scenery and a great cedar barrel sauna that was the perfect way to unwind after a day of skiing at Breckenridge. The nearby trails were fantastic for snowshoeing in the woods. I would highly recommend this mountain house rental to anyone looking for a serene and peaceful escape in the mountains away from the crowds.

Great place except some inconveniences

The place was great overall. However, it was difficult to get to the real property without calling the owner. Additionally, one of my guests forgot her necklace inside the cabin which she has not got back yet although the property owner says s/he has mailed the said item in an envelope. Granted, we should have been more careful but the same holds true when mailing it. Finally, the place could use some extra indoor and outdoor sports such as pool house and maybe a playground outside but it wasn’t bad without them either. Also, very important to note is the access road is all unpaved for couple of miles so it’s better to be prepared for that.

Beautiful home surrounded by vast nature!

It was always a nice drive to and from the property. Everyday we would come across some moose. The travel time from the start of the community to the home was about 15 mins even with icy and or nonplowed road conditions. Thankfully our AWD vehicle was equipped with snow tires and made the commute manageable especially when some parts of the road weren't plowed yet. Communte to the Fairplay was about 10 mins to include the grocery store. The home's elevation was 11,500 ft, so drink plenty of water, take that first day to adjust to it, and bring some symptom relieving meds to enjoy your stay. I would've appreciated if there was a portable humidifier in the home (other than the sauna) for guest that are not used to the dry climate. Home was very clean and spacious. Kitchen is equipped with plenty cooking appliances. The King bed in the main bedroom was rather comfy. Overall, I would recommend staying in this home in the Winter or Summer!

Wonderful Cabin for Breckenridge Ski Trip

First, the cabin is just wonderful. Great layout and plenty of space. We stayed there and drove about forty minutes to Breckenridge to ski daily. There is a cute wood burning fireplace, washing machine and full kitchen. There are some things to consider if you use this cabin in the winter. You absolutely need chains for your tires and a SUV type vehicle with all wheel drive. The route up to the cabin was icy and full of snow. The elevation is really a factor. It took a couple days to get used to it. The walk up to the cabin in the snow from the car might not be for everyone. The sauna really didn't heat up because it was just too cold outside. The toilet downstairs was a little bit quirky. I say all of that in full disclosure but it was absolutely great. We would definitely stay there again. I loved having the space, privacy, and avoiding the ski crowd in town.

Gold Trail Retreat above Fairplay

the place was great and our extended family really enjoyed it. A couple of your employees, whose names I unfortunately can't recall, stopped by to bring us some sheets on the night of the 17th and were very generous with advice about local activities; super nice, we really appreciated it. I hope everything stays cool in Moldova for the fiance of one of you - we enjoyed chatting with both of you guys. Most of our party grew up in CO and some still live there. We get together in the Mountains almost every summer somewhere between Hoosier Pass and Salida and will certainly check out Second Home's listings for next summer. We're having a problem with the billing, which I believe to be the fault of airbnb, and Angela has put in a ticket with airbnb to try and get that resolved. We signed for an "early season rate" of $167/night, but were invoiced $213/night. According to Angela, there isn't any early season rate in July, but that's what we were offered and signed up to, ref. the screenshots I emailed. BTW, if I go to your airbnb page right this minute I see "EARLY SUMMER SEASON SPECIAL PRICING - Gold Trail" https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/29917684?adults=6&children=2&check_in=2022-08-01&federated_search_id=4eb5d36e-79c4-4470-9f78-e3d4276cbb5a&source_impression_id=p3_1658618530_lmW70VIBmUWudbPy&guests=1&check_out=2022-08-05 although the rate is not $167. anymore, airbnb does not seem to understand that it's not early season to you anymore.

Mixed Feelings

The manager managing the property was very polite, professional, and kind. Communication with her was very pleasant and quick (we changed dates of our reservation and she was most accommodating and responses were quick). Property was clean, well stocked with everything you need in the kitchen, a roll of tp in each bathroom, blankets, towels, some none-perishable items in the kitchen, some detergent and dishwasher liquid. Property: When we arrived, as I walked upstairs to the main door, inside the cabin I was struck by most excruciating chest pain I have ever experienced! It was almost impossible to breathe. Some little cans of oxygen that we bought ($17/ea) were quickly disappearing and they help just for 30 min each. After an absolutely sleepless night, we thought of checking out the next day and leaving. Instead, we rented an oxygen machine in hopes it would save our vacation. Budget that in, people, because there is absolutely NO WAY you will NOT going to need it! 5 days rental was $400. We slept with the machine every night and would escape to lower altitude places during the day. We ended up cutting our vacation short to avoid sleeping in the cabin one more night. Note to the property owners: A thoughtful and carrying thing to do for the people who invest in your business would be placing one of those machines at the property. This is a common problem and the intensity of it varies. Inability to breathe and have your heart squeezing in every drop of air is very painful and terrifying. Property is up the hill and the drive from the bottom of that hill to it is a dirt road, a good 20-25 min of it. Our Sienna had hard time climbing that rocky road. There are no hiking trails around the property. Everywhere you look there are signs that say, "Private Property. Keep Out! No Trespassing." So, when you want to go on a trail hiking you will need to drive to it.. going through the rocky road.. twice - up and down, down and up. There is a small pond near by for fishing. (driving distance). Breckenrige was a very fun place to visit. We also went to Silverthorne Rec Center during a rainy day and it left a great impression!
