Weekend getaway

We had 4 adults and this was a great property. Very quiet, remote, yet close to things to do. Visited Monticello, several wineries and dinner at Obrigado in Louisa All, just a short drive. House was super clean, well-appointed and spacious. My dog had a great time, and fun to pet the horses. I highly recommend. No complaints at all.

Great getaway to a peaceful, well appointed, log cabin on a horse farm. Highly recommend this place for a unplug and destress relaxing break in the rolling hills outside Charlottsville.

Another peaceful stay

The cabin is beautiful and the farm peaceful, but still close to Charlottesville for shopping and activities. We'd stay here again.

AMAZING GETAWAY

THIS PLACE IS A GEM. BEING ABLE TO BE ON A FARM WITH MUSTANGS, THE BEAUTY OF THE LAND, AND THE PEOPLE THERE WERE AMAZING. THE TRAINER, AMANDA, SHOWED AND TAUGHT ME ALOT OF TECHNIQUES I, BEING SOMEONE THAT HAS WORKED HORSES FOR OVER 20 YEARS, DIDNT EVEN KNOW. IT IS TRULY A BEAUTIFUL PLACE TO SEE.

Very nice cabin next to pasture and barns.

We enjoyed our time here so much we extended our stay. Nice kitchen with full size stove and plenty of counter space. The beds were comfortable as were the couch and chairs in the living room. Plenty of room for walking around outside and fairly close to Charlottesville for shopping.

Kind Owner!

We had a family emergency and had to leave a day early. Paul, without any request, refunded our last day. We are so grateful! The cabin sits on a horse farm, so don’t have an expectation of a 5 star hotel. It had everything we needed, the beds were comfortable. Everyone we met exuded friendliness and the horses were a bonus!

Location of the Cabin met our needs to be in a peaceful setting to visit with friends. The mattresses were super comfortable. There were a good supply of basic necessities in the kitchen.

Relaxing vacation

My wife and I along with our two dogs enjoyed our stay at the farm! Several horses, a donkey, and a goat were fun to watch while sitting on the porch. We definitely recommend staying at the farm!

Peaceful!

Nice, quiet and relaxing. Seeing the horses in the mornings added to the sense of calm. The cabin has everything you need for a long term visit. The host was very accommodating and the onsite staff were friendly and helpful. We would definitely come again.

Nice getaway not too far from home.

We really enjoyed our stay, our 13 month old loved waking up and seeing the horses so close and they were so friendly as was the staff. We were able to explore the property and the foilage was starting. Our dog enjoyed the horses as well and being in the fenced in portion of the yard was great for him to roam free as well. It was a great getaway and is still close enough to other attractions as well like breweries, orchards and wineries. Would definitely visit again and recommend!

Calm, peaceful and revitalising

I loved the stay! The property was secluded and remote, but not too far from the city. Just enough to give you that relaxing and 'natural' feel. It was clean, spacious and overall, just beautiful. The scenery was amazing and the horses were cute and friendly. The old cookbooks were interesting to.read through.

Another Happy Return!

We stayed here for the first time in 2021 and were thrilled to come back two years later. My husband and I had such a relaxing visit, enjoying quiet evenings and sitting on the front porch in the morning, watching the horses (who are super social!) in full form. Paul was an excellent host, super responsive when I messaged him to confirm checkout processes. Can't wait to come back again!

Home away from home

We stayed at Paul’s place for a month waiting to move into our house. It was spacious and had everything we we needed. Large porch was wonderful for having coffee and watching the horses. Our dog loved the fenced in yard and getting to meet the horses. Fast internet made working from home easy. Cooked many meals there on the gas stove and grill out back. Thanks again!

Summer on the Farm

We were in between houses and the turned out to be perfect for us as we needed a furnished location that allowed dogs - we have three. The farm staff are terrific - very helpful and mindful of our presence while they went about the day to day running of the farm. And the exposure to the horses was quite an interesting experience for us

Great surroundings but amenities need improving

We were here for a UVA graduation and loved the surroundings! It was so peaceful and so rejuvenating to be on a farm with beautiful horses, donkey and a pony. However, the bed covering on one of the two beds was stained as well as the sheets on both beds. That is not acceptable. We were able to find some additional sheets that did not have a stain to put on top but, it definitely did not give us a good impression of our indoor accommodations.

Country Cabin Getaway

Very pleased with the location of the cabin tucked in a corner of a horse farm with spacious lawn area, long back porch and front porch. Autumn colors were fabulous and being able to watch the horses was a plus. Interior of cabin suited our family gatherings of 7 for meals and visiting. Large coffee table in living room supports game boards. Kitchen fully equipped and stocked with essentials and multiple spices. Appliances were clean and well running. Beds were firm with adequate linens. Would consider renting for future family gatherings

Cute cabin with some room for improvemebt

The cabin could be better equipped with towels and other linens and the host was not aware we were coming. He approached me while entering and asked who I was and I was a bit taken back by the encounter. He was a nice guy and understood but still a little odd of an experience. It is a nice quiet cabin with plenty of horses running around though.

I’ll be back.

Amidst all the chaos of the pandemic, we needed an escape for a weekend. With school, work, and everything else looming... we needed to go somewhere to relax for our wedding anniversary weekend. The short version is that we loved everything about our stay. The property is wonderful, Matty the farm dog is as sweet as can be, and the horses/ponies/donkeys are great listeners when you need to talk into a void. Turns out our dogs love horses, too! Going to try to bring more family with us next time, as this might be a wonderful place for us to host a Thanksgiving or holiday weekend. The ONLY thing I wasn’t a fan of was the shower situation. The shower in the mud room had some strange blueish green liquid coming from the shower head, so I decided against using that one. The other shower was... short. I’m not a giant, only 6’2”, but I had to duck down a bit to get under it. But that’s not really a big deal. It’s a vacation house, after all. We will be back!

Could use some updating and cleaning

We arrived late at night and the property was dark. A solar light on the fence would have been nice so we could see, instead of using our phones while we carried everything in. Some editing needs to be done in the kitchen as cooking utensils were scattered in different drawers. Also, old "antique" kitchen items were on top of the cabinets and were dusty and cobwebbed. Dishwashing tabs were missing and it would have been nice to have so we didn't have to go out and buy some. In the bigger bedroom, one of the pillowcases was stained and I had to change it after finding a replacement. The bathroom associated with that room had a cracked toilet seat and the toilet rocked back and forth. The sink stopper was broken too and it made the sink stop up. I had to remove it myself to empty the sink. We decided to move the family room furniture around for better TV watching. Under the furniture, there was food and a couple of objects. The 2 recliners looked they were going to come apart if used, so we stuck to using the sofa. The windows in the family room had shutters that covered only half the windows and weren't all connected. More window cover would have been nice, especially for at night. The same for the back door where the laundry room/second bathroom was located. It was a nice location, somewhat secluded, and had a nice view of the horses, and a donkey too!

Cabin with horses

The host Paul was very good at answering my questions when we wanted to rent the property and also after we got there and there were a couple of things that I wanted to let him know about the property. We so enjoyed looking at the horses and petting them. It was a very quiet place to stay. And pretty convenient within 10 minutes of places to eat.

About the host

Hosted by Owner/Manager

Host profile image
I grew up in upstate New York, working on my brother's hay farm during the summers. We've been in Virginia since 1989 and I run Anna Valley Farm and an IT firm, federal contractor.

Why they chose this property

This house is not a typical cabin. It is a fully appointed house, a peaceful getaway on a working hay and horse farm. The trainers work on gentling wild mustangs for the Bureau of Land Managment, and working out customer's problems with their horses. With miles of trails, you can hike, walk through the woods and enjoy a peaceful setting in the country.

What makes this property unique

Quiet, peaceful farm setting, woods and fields with trails for hiking, fenced back yard. Dog friendly.
