Welcome to "Cliffside." Perched on a beautiful spot looking west over Great Moose Lake, enjoy spectacular sunsets, swimming, great fishing, and family fun in this well appointed 2,400 sq. ft. home. Cliffside features three bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms, a fully equipped kitchen, and is thoughtfully designed for entertaining both adults and young ones alike. All three levels feature their own bedroom and bathroom, sleeping two on the second floor, two on the first, and four on the ground floor.

The main floor features a full kitchen with dining and sitting area with a walk out deck for grilling and enjoying the lake view. A massive two story propane fireplace overlooks the cathedral ceiling great room. The second story has a bedroom with half bath and a balcony overlooking the lake and the main floor. The bottom floor "game room" is fully equipped for fun, including a ping pong table and an old fashioned Popcorn Machine to enjoy movie nights on the large screen TV. A selection of movies are available for you or you can sign in to your Netflix account. A large selection of board games are also available.

**Please select Videos (beside photos) to see a better views of the property and the lake** A field stone and granite patio lead to a staircase which brings you to the lake. A new dock was installed in June of 2017. The water is crystal clear and the lake bottom is firm gravel and stone, perfect for swimming. For the little ones, an easy zero grade walk in from the small beach makes exploring easy. Please note the staircase to the lake would not be recommended for young children unsupervised or for people with mobility limitations.

Spend your days swimming, kayaking, fishing, and playing in the beautiful water of Great Moose Lake. Frequent loon sightings, gorgeous sunsets and tranquil views are a part of the experience at "Cliffside". On a clear night the star gazing is spectacular from the deck or lawn.

Nearby Hartland features a grocery store and restaurant, along with a hardware store. Only 20 minutes away, Newport has a Walmart, Pizza Hut, Dunkin' Donuts, along with many other stores. Palmyra Golf Course is only 10 minutes from the house. Bangor is about 50 minutes. The iconic Acadia National Park, located on the beautiful Mount Desert Island and home to Cadillac Mountain is approximately a 1 hour and 45 minute drive from the property. Given the size of the park you can easily hit many of its best destinations inside of a days journey. Bar Harbor, the bustling town on Mount Desert Island is a great location for shopping, dining and embarking on a number of sea faring excursions.

In the winter enjoy nearby snowmobile trails, snow shoeing and cross country skiing. There is also at least one or two ice fishing derbies each season. If downhill skiing is your preference, New England's premier skiing resort at Sugarloaf USA is only 60 miles away. Smaller ski resorts are closer.

We recently acquired this home and will continue to add updated photos highlighting the beautiful outdoor aspects of this property.
Suitability: children welcome, non-smoking only, pets not allowed, wheelchair inaccessible.

Reunion

Well appointed home on a quiet lake. True to notes in the listing; lots of stairs! We enjoyed the Bed/bath on each of the 3 floors; it was as if each couple had their own suite. Common space was great for us all to congregate. A daily paddle in one of the included kayaks was enjoyable. Beds were a little soft for some. Scott was easy to communicate with and quick to respond.

Gorgeous and Relaxing!!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay from the minute we arrived! The house is decorated beautifully and had all the comforts of home. The property is gorgeous with outstanding lake views! We had so much fun fishing, swimming, kayaking, playing ping pong and enjoying the view. We also took some day trips but enjoyed spending our time in the house and on the lake. Thank you so much for opening up your beautiful home, we truly enjoyed our visit and hope to return soon :-)

Gorgeous Home on a Beautiful Lake!

This property is absolutely beautiful inside and out. Our family travels to Maine every year from Virginia to visit family and this by far has been our favorite place to stay to date. The house is very clean and well stocked. My girls loved playing ping pong and using the kayaks and paddle board. The lake is gorgeous. We did lots of fishing and swimming. We saw a bald eagle and lots of loons. This is a great family property - although I wouldn't recommend for anyone that has trouble with stairs. It is 84 steps from the house to the lake. My grandparents came to visit and were unable to walk down to the water due to all the steps. But all in all, I would give our stay a 10 out of 10!

Everything you could want in a lake house vacation

The house was picture perfect, the photos don't do it or the yard justice. It had nearly everything yo might need for an extended stay. Since there is no cross breeze due to the window set up a couple extra fans for the bedrooms would have been nice but even without them it was tolerable. If you do not like stairs this may not be the place for you but if you don't mind a little work out, this is the perfect spot for a relaxing, quiet vacation. The lake was amazing, clear and warm. The wifi is a bit inconsistent but that is to be expected so if you want speed & consistency you may be frustrated. Scott is easy to get a hold of and communication was great. Hope we will be making this a yearly trip.

Peaceful Getaway

This property is amazing and was equipped with 2 kayaks, 1 paddle board and a swim dock. We have 5 children ranging in ages from 22-9 years old. All 5 children LOVED this vacation and we spent so much quality time in the water together. It's high praise when every child claims this vacation is their all time favorite. This is the second time we've rented this property and it was just as wonderful as 3 years ago. Scott's home is the perfect peaceful getaway!

Great Vacation, beware the Summer Heat...

Recently stayed for 2 weeks in mid-July. House & property are beautiful & fantastic, clean & well prepped. 2 families (4 adults, 3 kids) & had plenty of room. Internet works well, good enough for streaming services. Deck has been updated w/ composite, railing balusters replaced by horizontal steel cables (nice upgrade). Loft inside got same steel cable upgrade. 4 stars only because house can get stifling hot. 85 degrees w/ windows open and fans going. Owners did install a portable AC prior to our visit, but the 12k BTUs barely made a dent. AC was next to the kitchen table, so at least during meals & games, had cool air blowing on us. Some nights few adults slept on the basement floor to get away from the heat. I recommend pair of window units on opposing sides of 1st floor, consider venting the gas stove out wall thru cabinets, & curtains on the high windows (sun bakes front of the house from 12pm on). Grill is a Charbroil Commercial InfraRed type, w/ solid perforated grates. After cleaning the grill extensively still seemed to smoke profusely during use, & temperature control was tricky. Prefer to see a Weber Genesis & spare propane tank on hand. Master suite upstairs is ½ bath, expect to shower on the main floor. Kitchen is fully stocked. Ample seating everywhere (house, yard, water). 2 kayaks and a paddle board available, & kids caught numerous small fish from dock. Expect a workout getting to/from the lake. 6-7 flights equivalent (no joke about “cliffside”). Elderly would struggle. Multiple landings for rest, & picnic table before the final flight down to the dock. Dock and swim platform are fantastic. Dock has 4 wooden Adirondack chairs, swim platform has 2 built in loungers. Mooring for any boat/power sports you bring. Dock is unanchored and tying to it against house rules. Shoreline is gravel (if considering beaching). Boat launch on the opposite shore, about 20 min car ride. No fuel on lake, bring gas cans. Bugs were fierce at dusk, so limited outside night activity. Expansive patio w/ seating and lighting, fire pit w/ some firewood provided, corn hole game, ping pong with paddles and balls(serious players, bring your own paddles). Dart board, but no darts(that we found). Popcorn machine works well, packets provided above the fridge. TV & soundbar w/ sub make movie night fun. Enjoyed our stay, would consider renting again. Thanks Scott and Kirsten!

Great house on a beautiful lake

Wonderful property on Great Moose Lake. This was our third time staying at the lake, and as before, it was a wonderful respite. The lake is great for fishing, kayaking, swimming, and general peaceful repose. The laughing loons add to the nightly mystique. This house in particular was spacious and immaculate. All the amenities are here, including smaller touches like ceiling fans and small fans for the bedrooms, which were welcome due to the unexpected heat. Like most of the camps here, there is no AC. Nice deck with a grill and a firepit outside with plenty of chairs and firewood. The steps down to the lake and the dock, swimming platform, kayaks and paddleboard (very nice!) are a hike, but not that bad, especially considering that the elevation gives a great view. The owners are very quick to respond and were able to give timely answers to all our questions. We did have an issue with our departure, though, as there was a perception by the cleaning crew that we had not cleaned enough prior to departure, despite our having spent considerable time that morning and the day before cleaning and tidying. We were surprised and confused by a message from the owner after we left that we had left a mess and would be assessed a cleaning charge. Long story short, I'm not sure what the cleaning crew saw, but we had made great efforts to follow the extensive cleaning instructions prior to our departure. Fortunately, we were able to straighten it up with the owners and receive a refund of the charge. My perception was that the cleaning crew didn't want to do much, if anything. We had taken a few pix of the place right before we left, but they weren't needed in the end, as the owners were gracious to extend the refund. Always take some pix after you've cleaned! In the end, I'd highly recommend this stay. We miss the lake!

Lakeside Paradise

We had the most amazing stay here. Unlike most guests, we went in the depths of winter (February school break). It was a different kind of lake experience, but one that we thoroughly enjoyed. The lake was frozen solid, and we were able to take long walks around the perimeter, play in the snow, and watch the neighbors ice fish. The house itself was gorgeous and full of light - the lake view is incredible. We had everything we could have wanted - comfortable beds, a well-stocked kitchen, plenty of games and movies to watch, and great internet service. The fireplace made the house extra warm and cozy all week. Scott had the driveway plowed and the front steps and walk shoveled for us right after it snowed. One of our best vacation rentals ever. Thank you!

Cold and Covid

The house is beautiful as is the backyard and the lake. We simply went too late in the season to really get the most out of the place and most things were closed. We would definitely return in the summer or spring.

You have it all here!

We stayed at Cliffside for 3 nights and enjoyed the cabin thoroughly. Scott is very responsive and helpful. The cabin is very clean and ready when we arrived. Hanging out on the stone patio and near the firepit is what I loved the most. We had a great time swimming in the lake. There were 2 kayaks, a paddleboard, and life jackets for us to use. The kitchen is fully equipped and there are plenty of board games, ping pong table to keep everyone entertained. Overall a great experience and would love to be back again.

A Beautiful Relaxing Sibling Reunion

This property is Amazing. Wish we would have booked two weeks. It was spotless. The outdoor landscaping with multiple sitting areas was inviting and functional. The very best stocked kitchen, easily utilized for lobstah boil to BBQ. Beds were very comfortable. Large clutter free garage. Scenery was gorgeous. The lake was pristine and perfect for swimming. We travel often and our new sister *thank you Ancestry* lives nearby. The owners were qiuck responders and great communicators. Will be back to Cliffside with other family, I'm sure.

Why they chose this property

Thanks for looking at our property at Cliffside. In Maine many families have a "camp" which they grew up with as a focal point for family gatherings and summer fun on the water. My wife and I wanted to give our family the same gift and memories. We spent many years travelling the state, renting different properties and exploring new lakes until we finally discovered Great Moose Lake, and the property at Cliffside. Growing up only 45 minutes away, we were frankly surprised to find this hidden gem among busier and more well known lakes in the state. The property itself is a terrific place to relax, unwind, and have fun with plenty of space for adults and kids alike. We hope you decide to give Cliffside a visit and know that we won't be far away if there's anything you need during your stay.
