About this property

Feed Your Soul at Silver Beach Cove

Silver Beach Cove is a sanctuary from the workaday world. This last year we have added a pier with floating dock, and completed the living shoreline. Settle in to a relaxing stay in this lovely three bedroom, two and-a-half bath house (and outdoor shower!) All rooms have vaulted ceilings, and gorgeous views.

Nestled on a secluded cove, we are surrounded by woods and farmland. Bay breezes and nature embrace you on the wrap-around screen porch and back deck. Living areas center around a river rock gas fireplace. Enjoy your coffee while watching trees rustle and egrets fishing for their breakfast.

The master bedroom suite has a queen-sized bed and a soaking tub under garden window. Two other sleeping spaces include queen beds, and there is a step-in corner shower in the main bathroom.

Extra-wide doorways and all-one-level floor plan accommodate wheelchair use gracefully. Your well-mannered pet is welcome (ask about pet and baby arrangements). Crib and high chair are available.

There are many activities (farmers' markets, hiking, antique emporiums) and delightful restaurants within a short drive from Silver Beach Cove (we'll leave you a list of our favorites), also crabbing, biking, and canoe/kayaking equipment provided on site. We bet you'll just want to settle in-—it is one of the most beautiful, tranquil places on the East Coast!

Special spot on the Eastern Shore

How many good things can I say about this place? It's a spotless house with great appointments that's on a quiet cove that's not even on Google Maps. My wife and I stayed with my brother and sister-in-law for the long weekend. We found everything to be just as described. We enjoyed fishing, kayaking, paddleboarding and just relaxing on the screened porch. The house is convenient to everywhere on the lower part of the Delmarva Peninsula. We went to Cape Charles and to Kiptopeke during our stay. We also enjoyed a meal at the Great Machipongo Clam Shack (uncompensated recommendation). The house is near perfect. Three comfortable bedrooms, gorgeous landscaping, great views into the cove and the Bay beyond. We love the Peninsula and we are happy to have found a place that brings us such happiness. Many thanks to Karen and Doug for providing a great haven for us.

Restful, relaxing family getaway

Our family including our 6 year-old son and black lab had a great time at Silver Beach Cove. The home is situated right on the water and is about a 15-20 minute drive from the main highway. The property was so quiet and peaceful with lots of butterflies and hummingbirds to watch. Our son and dog had a great time down at the little shoreline looking for fiddler crabs. We had fun fishing from the dock, seeing what we caught in the crab pot and enjoying the canoe and kayak. We highly recommend this location if you just want to get away. I very much miss sipping my morning coffee from the screened-in porch and gazing out at the water. The home really does have all that you need (paper towels, toilet paper, laundry detergent, hand/dish soap, etc.). The outdoor shower was very nice to use after getting muddy playing on the shoreline. There are also plenty of games to keep you occupied. We took a day trip to Cape Charles Beach and Cape Charles Brewing Company (great food & beer!). We also did an ecological tour with Captain Barry's Backbay Cruises up in Chincoteague (wonderful!). There are lots of antique stores up and down the main highway. Two other great restaurants were the Great Machipango Clam Shack in Nassawadox and Mallards at the Wharf in Onancock. Otherwise, we cooked most of the week and were able to get groceries from Food Lion (about 15-20 min. away). We drove our Tesla but there is a supercharger at the Royal Farms right off the highway (again 15-20 min. away). Enjoy!!

Loved Our Stay

We loved staying here. The house and property are beautiful. Lots of butterflies on the flowers. Hummingbirds were brave to come up to their feeder while we sat close by. The pier is nice and stocked with plenty of supplies for various activities. The screened in porch was a nice spot to sit and read on the couple days we had some rain. Inside was furnished comfortably. We look forward to coming back.

Wonderful getaway

What a wonderful experience with these hosts, Karen was so thoughtful with everything. We all loved the house and its set up and its amazing views and access to the water with so many boating options. We mostly used the paddleboards( didn't have to bring our own) every day 3X a day, and SO many wonderful games, we played every night... Can't wait to go back..

Exceptional Stay

We travel a good amount and I am always looking for a good deal, and a comfy and special stay. This place is amazing. Don and Karen have created a wonderful stay for a group of all ages. We loved it and can’t say enough about how comfy, clean, and equipped the house was. They have boats and bikes, games and books, cooking and grilling tools too! We saved money and packing space because of everything they provided at the house. They are super easy to communicate with and we were thankful to have stayed.

Beautiful

This is a gem- the property, the home, the location were perfect! We are birders, nature lovers, hikers- love being by the water, all the boxes were checked. The home had everything one could hope for. The views were perfect, from nearly every window. And so many lovely places to sit with your morning coffee out in the yard or on the deck.

Perfect!

We were looking for a place where we could just relax. This home exceeded our expectations. The hosts thought of everything that would make our stay enjoyable. The kitchen was well stocked. The canoe, rowboat, kayak enabled us to enjoy the cove. The house, the deck, the screened in porch were all very comfortable. The hosts were very easy to communicate with him and helped us to feel very welcome in their home. This was a wonderful Vrbo experience.

Beautiful home in a quiet and serene setting

We had a wonderful week in this beautiful, well-equipped home. The location is very remote - we heard only birds and bugs. We enjoyed venturing in to Port Charles to take our young grandson to the beach and to enjoy a couple of the restaurants there. We also took full advantage of the boats, bikes, and games at the house. What a treat those were! The screened in porch was a favorite place for our family to hang out and reconnect. The outside shower was an unexpected delight. The only disappointment for us was not knowing that the master bathroom did not have a shower - only a soaking tub. Karen was a gracious host, offering us a crib and highchair for our grandson and leaving us a couple of bags of coffee (whole bean and ground) to enjoy each morning as we watched the birds out on the cove. This was our first time to this area and Karen's beautiful home made it a fun, relaxing, memorable vacation.

Great Fun

The property is absolutely beautiful! The view from the screened in deck was simply amazing! We had great fun exploring the cove on the variety of boats available and experienced more sea wildlife than ever before. The house and gardens were very clean and well kept. The house was supplied with everything needed to function as a home away from home. We also took a long leisurely walk (with our 2 pups) around the corn field and admired the many beautiful properties and flora. It was a wonderful experience and would love to return one day.

Quiet & secluded cove with gentle breeze

My husband, dog & I really enjoyed our stay at Silver Beach Cove. Quiet and although it was July in VA it didn’t feel hot because of the daily breeze and ample shade (no bugs during our mid-July stay). The cove is quite shallow & muddy. Best to paddle out past the cove for a swim or visit a local beach. Our pup did cut his foot on an oyster shell (we think) while we mistakenly played fetch in the cove during low tide. Seems like the tidal range is about 2-3 feet, so better to do that at high tide. Recommend visitors actually observe the high/ low tide fully before venturing into the water so you can see the oyster wall that’s hidden at high tide. We brought our own paddle boards for excursions at nearby Willis Wharf & Onancock but used those on property in the cove. Husband tried his luck at fishing and caught a few fish plus a ray just past the mouth of the cove inlet. Lots of crabs of all sizes in the cove. Host provides ample entertainment: corn hole, canoe/ boards/ bikes, lots of board games, good books to read or peruse. House was immaculate upon arrival and property well kept. Loved bathing in the outdoor shower. We look forward to returning someday with our kids.

Perfect place to relax

We LOVED our stay at this Va property. Top things that drew us in were it being dog friendly, kayaks, canoe etc for use, the view and the secluded wooded suuroundings. This is a home where you can escape the hectic life and just kick back. It is out on a peninsula so the drive to major supermarket is about 20 min but you cant get enough of the scenary. We charted a boat to fish off chincoteague. Dinner in onnacock. Spent an afternoon in cape charles. Walked some local preserves. Watched sunsets from the deck and out on the water in a canoe. Our tween loved catching fiddler crabs at the waters edge and exploring. We were talking about coming back before we left! Beds were comfy. Kitchen had everything we needed, and we cooked daily. Very friendly hosts that we had pleasure of speaking w on phone. It was perfect for our group of 5.

Peace and Tranquility with a Killer View

This property is stunning...a perfect place for a friends' getaway. The house has everything you could possibly imagine from high ceilings that let the light pour in...to a gourmet kitchen with every piece of equipment you could possibly need...to tons of DVD's, games and puzzles. The owners were the most accommodating of any VRBO property we have EVER rented. Literally, everything is provided for you. So many great suggestions of places to visit and eat. You're about 20 minutes from Cape Charles, a great town for exploring....right on the beach with lots of cool shops and great restaurants. But, to tell you the truth you'll want to get back as soon as possible just to relax on the wonderful deck overlooking Silver Beach Cove. We saw hummingbirds, woodpeckers, and osprey catching fish for their evening meal. There are paddleboards and kayaks for the adventurous in spirit. I can't recommend this property highly enough. We will definitely be returning in the future. Thank you, Don and Karen, for a wonderful, memory-filled, best girlfriends' getaway!

This was honestly one of the best vacations my family has ever taken. This place has it all: secluded, plenty of water activities and it’s own private beach (traveling by paddle board to the bay.) The house was clean and had tons of games. You can’t beat the view of the cove. 5 stars

Escape to the cove

A thoughtfully maintained home on a large lot in the woods on a seaside cove. A beautiful woodland garden. What a nice family vacation spot! Bring your binoculars - there is constant water bird activity including ospreys and bald eagle. All is viewable from inside the house or on the screened porch where we spent most of our time. A great place to relax.

Beautiful, well stocked, relaxing house

We (3 adults and a dog) stayed three and a half days over the Thanksgiving holiday. The house was just as pictured and described. The kitchen was very well stocked and open to the dining and living areas so no one felt isolated when cooking or cleaning up. Everything anyone could want in any room of the house was provided! The beds were comfortable. The view of the cove was pleasant. The piano, board games, puzzles, fireplace, and outside games (corn hole and horse shoes) provided a lot of options for entertainment other than the two TVs. The high quality of the furnishings made it feel very comfortable and not just a place that was set up for rentals. All of the outside water equipment would be great for warm weather stays. We took long walks in the area with our dog and overall enjoyed the stay very much.

Hidden Gem

This cottage is all that's advertised. My friends and had THE best weekend. The owners thought of everything. From boating, privacy, fishing, grilling, sitting on the dock bay, watching the tide roll in and out. We could not have imagined a better experience. The little things, ie, filled medicine cabinet, more than enough towels, toilet paper, paper towels. Anything you need or want was provided. Highly recommend this property.

Charming home and property.

We greatly enjoyed our week at this home. The home and yard is well maintained. The home was very clean and had everything we needed. The owners were welcoming with great communication and lots of notes around the house with needed information. We made frequent use of the dock, paddle boards, and canoe. Kids had fun catching crabs off the dock. I strongly recommend water shoes as the oyster shells are sharp and the bottom of the cove is muddy. The screened porch was lovely in the evenings and protected us from bugs. We appreciated the well stocked kitchen as there were few restaurant options under 30 minutes away. The owners were kind enough to set out a dog bowl with water for our arrival. The WiFi was reliable enough for my husband to work part of the week. We enjoyed dinner at the Island House restaurant. We spent a day in the town of Cape Charles at the beach and fishing pier and finished with dinner at the Cape Charles Brewery. All in all, we had a relaxing, peaceful week. Highly recommend this property!

Relax & explore

The house & property was great for fishing, paddling the cove, playing games, putting together puzzles, & enjoying coffee on the porch. Though it's about 15 minutes "off the beaten path" with spotty cell & wifi, it's a 25-40 minute drive from some really cool places! The property owner has done as awesome job of collecting information on local restaurants, tours, & site seeing- & there are a TON of worthwhile places to go!! The Shanty, Oyster Farm,& beach in Cape Charles, Janet's Cafe & Mallards in Onancock, & the Island house in Wachapreague were some of our favorites!

About the host

Hosted by Karen Smith

Host profile image
As two middle-aged teachers, we built this cottage to be our bit of future retirement heaven. Until that time, we rent this haven to folks who turn out to be amazingly similar to us: lively people who are outdoorsy, like reading more than watching TV, enjoy chatting, paddling, an extended jigsaw puzzle accomplishment or a lengthy game of Risk, and who LOVE to eat!

Why they chose this property

When we cross the Cheapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel, our stresses are left behind in the city, and years fall away. Eastern Shore has been protected by the CBBT toll, and a slower way of life is to be found here on the Shore. We avoid chain restaurants and instead shop at the many quirky mom&pop places, vegetable stands, seafood-from-an-icechest-from-the-back-of-a-truck style of life.

What makes this property unique

Snowy egrets winging down the cove, profound peace, solitude, a feeling of connection with a larger sense of wholeness; giant oak trees and the rippling gold of winter wheat across the front field. Shifting light creates translucent colors 'painted' across the cove at dawn & sunset. Even lightning storms, glimpsed across the Bay, make this an almost magically calming place.
