Urban Cottage Downtown St. John's Overlooking Harbour
This is our home so we love it up much of the year. An old biscuit box - hence the name Urban Cottage - with an add-on to the back of the house that overlooks the harbour and southside hills. While the front street takes you directly downtown, to the back of the house is a two-tiered deck that is quiet and scenic. This is a good spot for a few nights' stay before heading out on island adventures, or for visitors looking to explore local trails during the day while seeking local foods and a good nights sleep in a comfortable king size bed. There are two other rooms but these are off limits to guests during their stay.

Sheridan is a wonderful host, friendly and communicates well. Listing is accurate so no surprises upon arrival. Excellent location. We walked each day to the Water Street area. Highly recommend this charming house in St. John’s!
Sheridan is an exceptional host, staying connected, met with us to ensure no surprises. This place is exactly as described and made you feel like it was your own. Could not ask for a better location. Got together on our last night and went out for dinner.
The house is a older style house with lots of character which I loved. I kinda wanted a outside pic of the place to see the area i was in but it wasent revealed until booked. Host was very friendly and overall a great stay.
My husband and I had a lovely stay at Sheridan and her family's home. It was cozy, had all the amenities we needed, and within walking distance of just about everything (we decided to drive to see Signal Hill and Quidi Vidi as we didn't want to spend a few hours walking there and back). Our daily walk up the block was a great work out ;).
Thank you again for sharing your home with us, Sheridan!
Great location, a short walk to the downtown music scene and pedestrian mall. Fabulous views of the harbour. Very clean and comfortable space with artistic and homey decor.
The property is very much in keeping with the typical older St. John's neighborhoods. Hilly streets and sometime challenging walking. Close to restaurants and the water.
Delightful host. Very helpful with any information we needed. We only had a three-night stay, but the host helped us enjoy every minute of the time in St. John's.
We had a great stay at Sheridan's place. Check-in was super easy via a lock box. Unfortunately, we did not get to meet Sheridan because our flight had been cancelled and our check in time had changed. Communication was great and everything was exactly as described! We were surprised how quiet it was at night. I guess, we were just close enough to downtown to be able to walk to many restaurants yet far enough that we didn't hear too much nightly activity :-)
I had set a high bar for Newfoundland hospitality, it far exceed my expectations! Thank you Sheridan, what a host you and your family are.
Thank you,
Joanne
The original part of the house is over 100 years old. The home shows its age with love, its layout, and a few creaks! We relaxed and enjoyed the space. It is conveniently located, and is within easy walking distance to downtown and has a distance view of Cabot Tower on Signal Hill. The house is not suitable for people with physically disabilities, as the only bathroom is up a flight of narrow stairs. Sheridan and family are wonderful hosts.
Sheridan's house was perfect for our 4 day stay in St. John's. The bedroom is big and the king size bed is very comfortable. A recently added window AC made the heat wave bearable. The kitchen is fully equipped and the place is cozy and charming and very clean. There is a beautiful back deck area with a view of the harbour and a visiting cat. It is a real home, very tastefully decorated and welcoming. A comprehensive and informative guest book is provided as well as an assortment of guidebooks. The location is perfect - right across the street from The Rooms and easy walking distance to the shops and restaurants on Water Street and the harbour.
A real delight to stay at; fell in love with this cottage!
We absolutely loved staying in this house! It was so comfortable and cozy; such a wonderfully quirky, character home! It was such a delight & we really felt so much at home there! The location is great - remember there are hills though, although that is something you have to expect when you are staying in downtown St. John's - so it was easy to walk and/or drive to so many places we wanted to go to from there; plus we never had any problem parking either right in front of, or very near to, the front door & it was free parking! The views of the harbour, the hills, and the beautiful trees in the backyard are great and so relaxing, both from downstairs in the sunroom, to upstairs in the main bedroom. Bed was very comfy with warm, comfy covers; kitchen is plentifully equipped so we were able to cook all our meals during our entire stay; shower has good water pressure and a good hot water supply. We stayed at this property for nearly a week. from Thursday Oct. 10th to Wednesday Oct. 16th. We hope to be able to visit St. John's again, and we would most certainly try to plan another such visit based on being able to stay at this delightful property! Thank you Sheridan for letting us live in your lovely home during our memorable stay in St. John's!
The host (Sheridan) was wonderful. She was responsive to any questions or concerns we had, was honest, down to earth and easy to contact. Both she and her family made it their priority to ensure our stay was comfortable. Despite the fact that we encountered some individuals under the influence in the evenings as we were out walking in the neighbourhood, it was a great location for walking access to downtown. It was super close to The Rooms, St John's Basilica, Tim Hortons and groceries. The day we left, we were able to catch a sunrise over the harbour from a high spot in the back yard. And St. John's was definitely an amazing place to visit! Thanks Sheridan for allowing us to stay in your home.

I am a proud single mom of two. I have spent the last 11-years in Newfoundland conducting outdoor experiential hiking tours with visitors, youth, and non-for-profit groups. Currently, I hold two positions at the Memorial University as Knowledge Mobilization Coordinator improving shared knowledge between the public and academics, as well as between various disciplinary units within academics such as natural sciences and social sciences. I am finishing up a PhD looking at local knowledge in Iceland in the context of how it improves the quality of adaption to hazards and disasters along coasts. I love being in Nature, and I love the North Atlantic as well as the islands that reside within its waters.
Why they chose this property
Our home is full of love. It was the second we set foot upon it. So we do love to share it with others. But it is an old house, so if you prefer pretty perfect, our home is not for you. It is central to everything, restaurants, groceries, liquor store, and trails. But if you just want to stay in cozy for the afternoon - you can take in the view from the back room and master bedroom.
