The Worst Rental Experience Ever
Upon arrival we learned for the first time that the apartment was under scaffolding which cut out light, debris was piled outside our windows, workers were walking back and forth outside and drilling, scraping, painting, the interior was filthy, several main windows were inoperable. We spent hours on the phone with VRBO seeking an alternative. None was found. (After five days, the management did provide a deeper cleaning that made us feel a bit more comfortable, but nothing else was addressed.)
We had to endure these unknown and inconceivable conditions for 17 days until scaffolding work was concluded. But even then, the apartment was not comfortable. The fans provided to cool the apartment were all broken. The nightclub across the street played very loud music and allowed lines of patrons on the sidewalks literally screaming until dawn. The problems with the windows and the lack of proper glazing or operable shutters gave no relief from the chaos. And just to put the icing on the cake, we learned that another agency had posted the same apartment for $3000 less than we paid DUE TO these very shortcomings known to management. So any brief moments of quiet enjoyment were absolutely obliterated by all of these surprises and more. We were advised that the owners have been aware of the main window conditions for some time, without any remediation. WE DID NOT GET WHAT WAS DESCRIBED, WE WERE SOLD, AND WE PAID HIGH RATES FOR.
