With its graciously curved driveway, manicured lawns, bright white weatherboard and luxurious interiors, Bowral Lodge is the very picture of an Australian country estate. Set on over an acre of elegant garden and lawn, this spacious country home is the ideal setting for sophisticated group and family getaways only two hours from Sydney.
With a circular drive and two car lock-up garage, there’s always plenty of room for visitors at the Lodge. Entering via a graceful, covered porch, guests will immediately be struck by the size of the main living area, with its interconnected lounge, dining and living spaces. This area, the warm heart of the house, opens onto both terrace and deck areas and features views across the grounds. French doors mean it’s filled with light in both summer and winter, while antique furniture, wainscotting and the deep fireplace add a sense of grandeur.
The kitchen will impress even the most seasoned entertainer with its farmhouse styling, breakfast bar, enormous range and double ovens. In the warmer months the entertaining terrace and pavilion are even better, with an outdoor kitchen and pizza oven designed to cater to the whole family. The firepit goes very well with a glass of red on a cold night too.
Needless to say, the standard of excellence is maintained in the five capacious bedrooms, two of which feature walk-in wardrobes and three of which feature ensuite bathrooms with heated floors. No matter which you end up in, expect a view of blue sky, green lawns and precise topiary. Country perfection.
What the owner loves
This is not a cookie-cutter home. It’s a proper country escape where each room and even each piece of furniture has its own personality. Each bedroom and bathroom is different. You may find yourself stopping to admire a vintage poster or a cupboard, the floorboards or a sculpture. That’s the whole idea.
What we love
For the sophisticated Sydneysider, Bowral is the highland getaway par excellence. It has all the cuteness you’d expect of a mountain town – the bakeries, the antique shops, the rose gardens – along with a serious dining and arts scene. For a country getaway that doesn’t sacrifice city comforts and cosmopolitanism, it doesn’t get any better.
What the family traveller loves
Whether you’re travelling in the height of summer or the chill of winter, Bowral Lodge offers plenty of creature comforts for family and friends. The separate but adjoining formal lounge, living, dining and kitchen areas allow plenty of room for everyone to stretch out and do their own thing, whether that means hot chocolate in front of the fire or chats around the dining table. That’s even before you step outside, where you’ll find a spa on the deck, an acre for the kids to run around on and, of course, the fire pit for late night chats.
