About this property

Heartwood Hill - Epic retreat-style exposed timber house with views of Wollumbin

Enjoy quality time with friends and family in a nature-drenched oasis, whilst enjoying everything this unique region has to offer. This spectacular retreat-style house boasts epic sunset views of Wollumbin and is surrounded by 7 acres of forested hills; let the magic of nature restore and uplift you! Located only 2km from the quirky township of Uki, and 40min from Gold Coast airport, 50mins to Byron Bay, it is both peaceful and convenient, however you might not want to leave this sanctuary!
The space
This house begs you to take a moment with your morning coffee to feel the expansive possibility in life and draw inspiration from the forest and mountain views all around you. The house is built in the Bush Pavilion style- modeled on Balinese houses but adapted for life in the Australian bush. Soaring ceilings, exposed timber beams, large open plan living and wrap around glass give this home a feeling of majestic spaciousness. Wollumbin mountain soars in the distance. Open up the large glass doors and many windows on a summer day for refreshing breezes, or light the fire place to stay cozy in winter.

The master bedroom has a queen bed, private balcony, ensuite and walk in robe. The second bedroom has a double bed, and the most delightful winter morning sunlight steaming in the windows. Upstairs you will find a large, spacious loft room that is currently set up as an office: desk, chair, and comfortable double sofa bed. It is perfect for morning yoga, a focused work session The loft room has a half wall on one side, which means it is sonically open to the kitchen. This makes it brighter and breezier, but please note it is not very sound proof. (100% visually private but sound drifts up from the living spaces downstairs). The main bathroom has a large shower and a big double spa bath. A large wrap around deck with various seating options allows you to enjoy the sunset with a glass of champagne with your loved ones.

Please note that this is a bush property - visits from birds, goannas and snakes are a regular occurrence! It is one of the highlights of the place and also requires care and understanding from the human guests on the land. There is a placid yellow-belly black on the property that keeps the browns away, but as always, be bush smart and stay still and calm if you get a visit from any animal friends.

There are no pets on the property, but that doesn't mean you can't bring yours!

Lastly, there are normally 2 beds made up. If you need the sofa bed made up upstairs we charge an extra $30 for the linen.

Guest access
The entire house and most of the grounds are available for guest use. There is a small cabin on the property with a long-term tenant. The tenant enjoys their privacy and will not intrude, nor will you see their dwelling from the house; they appreciate not being disturbed so please do not approach the cabin and the area around the cabin. There is a large wrap-around deck, a large flat grassed area perfect for running around or playing outdoor games, gorgeous forested zones to wander (carefully) in, and landscaped gardens of palms and ponds.
Other things to note
This property is semi-suitable for a wheelchair - it would require a bit of lifting to get into the house, but the house itself would be easy to navigate in once there. There are 4 steps into the front porch, and also a bit of 4-wheel driving from the car parked area (about 20m from the house).

Authentic Uki Stay
Tucked away and very private. Great for nature lovers, absolutely magnificent views of Wollumbin Mt Warning. I had 2 small dogs who enjoyed chilling out on verandah and having little explores around outside of house. I was a little worried about dogs (who are use to apartment living) as property not fenced in. Pleasantly surprised at their adaptability. They enjoyed themselves too!! Lovely home like feel to property. Loved the furnishings and little quirks. Very special place.

About the host

Hosted by Rhys & Stephanie

Host profile image
We're from the area and live in this home - and it's gorgeous. We live here with our toddler; Stephanie works as a Herbalist and Rhys works in Restorative Justice. Stephanie's mother Suzannah lives in the cabin next door, which is where we'll likely be bunking if you book our house. We love getting bookings as it helps with our mortgage repayments and gives us an excuse to visit friends or go camping.

Why they chose this property

This area is truly magical. From the flora and fauna to the epic views to the feeling of peace and healing, Uki and its surroundings are our chosen home. If you're looking to take advantage of what's on in the local community, ask us! We're pretty plugged into what's happening in the area and can recommend some great places or events as they happen.

What makes this property unique

We laughingly call this place a wooden marquee. It was designed by award-winning architects and lets in lots of light which lends itself to a feeling of spaciousness and grandeur. The deck is phenomenal for hosting and the view is stunning. It is both inspiring and grounding which is why we love this place so much.
