About the host
Hosted by Claire Fuller

The holiday house is in a magical location which is why we fell in love with it. Its at the very start of Encounter Bay ( Victor Harbor end) with its calm and protected swimming and boating waters. You have sandy beach access right on your doorstep when you cross the grassy reserve. ( which you overlook from the deck so the kids can play on the playground while you watch from the sun lounger) . The house is set up so you can relax and enjoy the views of the reserve and ocean from the oversized daybed in the open plan living area and out on the deck. We've kept it uncluttered and modern with resort style furnishings and facilities to encourage you to eat, drink, play and relax. There is table tennis in the garage, bikes, a canoe, toys and games and a downstairs TV area for the kids. There is a grassy back yard, ideal for cricket and afternoon sunbathing. There is a huge TV and beanbags for movie nights, a pizza oven, popcorn maker, pancake maker, smoothie maker, cocktail shaker and more. There are sun loungers and dining out on the deck and breakfast out there with the morning sun, bird song, treetop canopy and ocean air is truly addictive. If you can drag yourselves away however, there is much to explore. You can walk onto the esplanade from practically outside the front door. To the right you have a 3km flat bike and walking path that leads to the Bluff. To the left is the stunning Innman River Trail or a beach walk to Victor Harbor and Granite Island. For local eats there is the famous Yilki Store and Beach House Cafe which has a fabulous energy and does great wood fires pizza and Indian food from 5pm and often live music.
Why they chose this property
The Encounter Bikeway travels along the pristine coastline linking the heritage towns of Goolwa, Port Elliot and Middleton with us at Victor Harbor and you can jump onto it from just outside our door in Kent reserve. We have a couple of bikes in the garage for you to borrow or you can hire e-bikes from Victor or Goolwa which are so much fun and very easy to travel more distance without any leg power pain!
Port Elliot is a 10 min drive and we recommend Horseshoe Bay and Cockles Cafe ( have the Nasi Goreng!) before taking yourselves on another stunning coastal walk known as the Harbourmasters Walking Trail which is a 1.9km circuit mainly flat walk between Horseshoe Bay, across the headland to Knights Beach. On the way back you can stop in at the famous Flying Fish cafe for lunch or ice-cream. There are numerous walking trails from Port Elliot and don't forget the famous Port Elliot Bakery and boutique shopping and restaurants/pubs in the town. There are also ovals, skate parks, tennis courts and kids adventure parks in both Victor Harbour and Port Elliot but you are on Kent Reserve so, on your doorstep there is a kids playground, BBqs, Outdoor Gym and wide grassy areas for picnics and cricket .
If you want to take your boat to the boat ramp then that is along the esplanade to the right of our house, outside Whalers Inn at the base of the Bluff. The Whalers Inn has outdoor seating, ocean views, cocktails and happy hour too if you just want to sit back and watch the sunset fishing boats. A stroll there from our house will take you about 20 mins.
Or why not grab a deck chair from the shed and hop across the grass for a quiet relax at sunset with your toes in the sand and an almost private beach feel to yourselves. When the sun goes down, stroll home to the BBQ on the deck for a stress free night in.
If you want surf lessons, sandy beaches and kid friendly surf waters, Middleton is very close to us. Other favorite beaches are Boomers Beach and Knight Beach.

What makes this property unique
The Bluff is a must- A short steep ( but very achievable) hike of 800m and you are rewarded by amazing coastal views and you can descend down the other side to access gorgeous Petrel Cove and the Heysen trail to Kings Beach or you can also walk further along the Heysen Trail to Waitpinga Cliffs. Stunning!
If you walk left from our house instead you can walk on the Inman River Trail to Victor Harbor center (1.2km) or you can hug the coastline and walk along the beach towards the Granite Island Walkway (1.8km). The Kaiki Walk, Granite Island Circuit is the number 1 attraction in Victor Harbor so be sure to do it.
The golf course at McCracken is a 7 min drive from us. The fun cockle train from Victor will take you to Goolwa or its about 20 min drive. Our favourite place for breakfast or lunch in Goolwa is Mother Duck Cafe. Superb! And the op shops and historic wharf area and main street with its art gallery is lovely. Definitely spend a day or 1/2 day trip in Goolwa and you can drive onto the beach there and drive down to the Murray Mouth and sand dunes which is glorious and so much fun to slide down. Take a BBQ in the back of the car ( 4WD only) and head to the soft sandy beach and dunes all day where you can collect cockles in the sandy shore and fish .Cook up your own seafood feast at sunset and you will feel all is well in the world. Access to the Coorong is just a bit further around the headland from there.
For other easy eats, Mum's Beard Cafe in Victor is also a favourite for burgers and salads and we love the smoothies and healthy offerings at Qahwa Coffee Roasters & Espresso Bar/Cafe next door to the beach volleyball courts at Victor too. Its great that the kids can play while you have coffee or lunch. Afternoon tea has to be Belicious for Belgium waffles and door-stop toasted sandwiches and you can stop on the way for an explore of the lower Inman Valley and Ingalalla waterfall trails at Hay Flat. ( 30 min drive to waterfalls)
