About this property
French Country House in quiet hamlet close to amenities
Surrounded by beautiful clusters of country villages, medieval centres and market towns, this six-plus-one bedroom maison with a pool and garden is nestled in the heart of the picturesque, tranquil hamlet of Fajolles. This is our summer retreat where we visit with friends, float in the pool, and take time to slow down and relax. When we are not enjoying the house ourselves, we offer it to others to enjoy
The space
Upon entering the main door you'll find yourself in the centre hall with a traditional, large kitchen to your left and a spacious, bright dining room to your right. As you continue along the wide hallway there is a curving staircase to the right that leads to the two large, light-filled front bedrooms, one with an ensuite toilet and shower room. Towards the end of the main hall are the Salon with a TV to the right, and to your left is a large games room with a dart board, games table, pool table, well stocked bookshelves, and seating area with a wood burning stove.
The French doors at the end of the hall open onto the rear terrace where you'll find loungers, outdoor dining, the pool and gardens. You can return to the house through another door into the Games room. Continue through the games room or through the kitchen to a short hall with another staircase that leads to three more double bedrooms and two bathrooms. These bedrooms overlook the pool and garden. From this floor is a staircase to the top floor with additional accommodations. A good-sized double bedroom with an ensuite bathroom is to the left at the top of these stairs. Through this bedroom is an additional seventh bedroom.
Outside, you will find plenty of room to relax: in the gardens, in the pool, or on the spacious decks with covered entertaining areas and wood-fire grill.
Please note that this house is over 200 years old and as such has all of the charms of homes from a prior century. While we are renovating some spaces, we are very fond of the quirks, nooks, and oddities that develop in a house of this vintage.
Guest access
You are welcome to enjoy the whole house, patio, pool, and back yard. Please note that this house is over 200 years old and as such has all of the charms of homes from a prior century. While we are renovating some spaces, we are very fond of the quirks, nooks, and oddities that develop in a house of this vintage.
Other things to note
Please note that this house is almost 300 years old with all the charm of a prior century. This charm includes small steps up and down into some rooms. Your feet will quickly learn that there is a small step up to the games room and a small step down to one of the bedrooms but as you walk through the house for the first time these are things to look for and notice. While we have and will continue to renovate and update some spaces, we are very fond of the quirks, nooks, and oddities that develop in a house of this vintage so will work to keep all the personality this house has acquired through its life.
As a nod to the 21st century, we do have internet access, and there is a telephone in the Salon that guests can use in case of need. Additionally, there is Satellite TV with french and english channels. For convenience, each of the bathrooms have a hairdryer and both bath and pool towels are provided in each room. The kitchen is well equipped with most standard items and good selection of specialty items.
Just a quick reminder - this is not a corporate rental managed by an agency with hotel-like amenities. This is our summer home that we share with those traveling to experience life in a French country village.

About the host
Hosted by Kris Skjellerup

After having a wonderful stay in the south of France we four Canadians decided the feeling was too good to give up. After much planning we found this lovely to house to make our second home. We come as often as current circumstances permit. When we are not at the house we offer it others to enjoy the mood, ambiance, and joy we find on with every stay.
Why they chose this property
We love this property, house, and location because it is private but in a tiny hamlet, spacious but not too grand, quiet but not too isolated, antique but with necessary modern conveniences. We are 10 minutes from all services, 20 minutes from wonderful UNESCO sites, less than an hour from an international airports and only feet away from a lovely pool.
What makes this property unique
Perfect for families or small groups of friends who want a lovely retreat from the work world. There is room to relax and enjoy each other but with enough space to find a quiet corner to read without being disturbed by those who wish to chat or play.
