Great spot with wonderful views of the ocean and sunsets. Close to the beginning of the Cabot Trail and beautiful beaches in Port Hood. Host was responsive and lovely to deal with. Comfortable beds and tastefully decorated throughout. We will be back next year !
Easy check in & property exceeded our expectations. The walk to the beach at the end of the yard was unexpected & lovely. Port Hood is amazing too with lovely (warm) beaches. Highly recommend!
Great location for accessing beaches, golf and as a starting/ending point for the Cabot Trail. The home was clean, stocked with things anyone would need for a comfortable stay. And the beds were super comfy!
All of my family members are happy with the house. Beautiful decoration, functional kitchen ,clean bathrooms and comfortable bedrooms… everything you need, just like home. And the amazing view of the landscaping. We really regretted not booking a few more days.
We really enjoyed our time here. The cottage was lovely and well stocked. Beds very comfortable. The view is awesome. Very
pleased.

This was an outstanding vacation rental to start off our Cape Breton visit. The property is clean, comfortable and equipped with absolutely everything you might need. All kinds of dishes, cookware, cleaning supplies. Comfortable bed and lots of towels. Nice to have a full sized washer/dryer to prep for the next week of the trip. Quick communication from the owners. Sitting out on the deck with the watching and listening to the ocean waves roll in was wonderful. We walked all the way down to the oceanfront on beautifully maintained lawns. We would gladly have spent the whole summer here.
This was an amazing experience. My husband and I took my in-laws on vacation.
Everything was just PERECT. The home was beautiful decorated and spotless. It was a great spot. Beautiful views of the ocean and sunsets were spectacular.
I can not say enough about this property. We all felt right at home.
The owner of the property has thought of everything for the guests.
I will definitely recommend this property. 10 out of 10
Such an amazing place! I was thrilled to find accommodations with 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, as we traveled with friends and each couple wanted some privacy.
House is new, comfortably furnished and very stylish. Loved everything inside and out. ALL that you may need is there.
Owner is very attentive, and accommodating. We arrived relatively late, and found a perfectly set up place with a beautiful welcome basket and a note. Very much appreciated.
The biggest surprise were the views towards the ocean, mesmerizing sunsets and wonderful calm, and quiet stillness of the area. Perfect spot to head out exploring.
Oh, and there are beaches just a short stroll away, since you are in Port Hood, Beach Capital of Cape Breton!
Thank you Shannon and Family for your hospitality.
Perfect place to stay in a very beautiful area of Cape Breton
The cottage is very clean, new, and airy, and we were provided with pretty much everything that we would need for our stay of five days. It is in a very convenient location close to a grocery store, a pub, a very nice bistro (the Clove Hitch), and a hardware store. The best parts of the Celtic Shores rail trail are very close by. The next-door neighbour who owns the property that goes down to the water encouraged us to walk down and enjoy his space down by the water. (His daughter owns the cottage. ) The sunsets over the water are spectacular.
This is a very beautiful part of Cape Breton that we have never explored before. In addition to the rail trail, there are beautiful scenic drives, and hikes on this coast, as well as many lovely beaches and good bird watching! The water was cool, but not icy in mid June and we are told it warms up even more through the summer. A dip at the beach was very welcome after a long bike ride! Be sure you follow the road right up to the top at some point as there are stunning views from the top of Marble Hill Road.
The cottage was very suitable for one couple, but has a large second bedroom that could accommodate another couple or two or three other family members. The bathroom at this end of the cottage is larger and has a big soaker tub, which I didn’t get to use as we were there in a heat wave!
Overall, I would definitely recommend this place and we are hoping to come back here again, hopefully with friends or family.
Overall, a great property, with a couple of minor inconveniences. First off the positives!
Pros:
- Clean!
- New property, in really good condition
- Amazing, sunset coast view!
- Comfortable, nice decor (the pictures are very accurate!)
- Well stocked kitchen and nice appliances
- Full size washer/dryer available
Cons:
- Heating/Cooling. Maybe it's a USA vs Canada thing, but we could never completely figure out the heating/cooling as they were separate units and thermostats.
- Heating (part 2). The primary bedroom was very near the door to the deck, which had a lot of glass. given that, we would close the bedroom door at night for privacy and then it would get really warm in that room, even with the heat turned way down.
- Closets. While there are closets, none are available in the main bedroom. And the 2nd bedroom is setup with two beds AND a cot/foldup bed that was in that bedroom's closet. Made storing our clothes interesting.
- Fireplaces...3 in total I think it was (each electric) and never found how to work any of them!
Overall:
4 stars for me, with no doubt; very good experience overall. While the Cons might seem more than 1 star, I don't think they were as the positives were numerous.
I think some instructions on the HVAC and Fireplaces could have made it a 5-star stay!
P.S. We never found the mythical beach that some reviewers wrote about. We took the walk (more than 5 minutes!) found the water and the cliffs, very scenic but not a beach.
