Rustic and cute - but a few problems
We came for a bike race over one of the coldest weekends on record. The first night, temperatures were close to 0 F and the icy wind had no trouble cooling the cabin through its numerous cracks. (no doubt that the cabin is fine in summer -- but not built for harsh winter.) We could not get warm enough to take off our parkas. The drama continued with my son being awakened by mice in the walls of the loft (we should have known something was up when we saw the numerous mouse traps in the loft area). He is 14, but preferred to sleep in the master bedroom with us, where he was warmer and free of the sounds of mice. (So much for renting a 2 bedroom.) The next day, we returned from spending 8 frigid hours outside to realize there was no hot water in the shower. My husband immediately diagnosed the problem as a faulty mixing valve, but the manager sent to investigate (3 hr later) had to make several phone calls to make the same conclusion. He could not find the part locally (and apparently had no desire to call a plumber), and informed us that there would be no fix during our stay. The manager instead offered us 20% off the nightly rate. Considering the fees charged, this amounted to 15% off the total bill. IMO, this was not adequate to cover the inconvenience during this record cold. The other issue was communication about rules and check out procedures. Rules posted on the wall didn't match those online. I wish I could give a better review, but it was not a great experience.
