"Fairweather Cottage" is named for this home's original owners' wooden "ketch" that sailed to Avalon! This tandem walk-through three bedroom, two bath two level house (the second level is one of the bedrooms and both bathrooms are downstairs) is located less than two blocks from the beach, and was totally remodeled in 2008. Carpet has been replaced with hardwood floors in April 2019. Two flat panel TV's with DVD players (the one downstairs is a DVD/Blu-ray player), an iPod player, wireless internet, two electric fireplaces and many more amenities make this a great family vacation home. Just sit on the front porch, kick back, relax, and watch the world go by! 1159 SqFt 234CL | | | This vacation home rents on a nightly basis (2 night minimum, holidays and selected dates excepted; 3 night minimum mid-June through Labor Day).

Lovely, updated cottage

We enjoyed our stay at this cottage on Catalina. It was clean, updated, and had a lovely porch. We did encounter a glitch with some recently completed updates, but were compensated for it. Everything was within a short walking distance. We came as a couple — our children grown and nearly flown — but this is a nice place with games and space for a family.

Master swimmers take it to the island!

We were 6 senior women that wanted to swim and hike. We made most of our meals at Fairweather. Nice kitchen, 2 coffee pots, a Keurig and Mr. Coffee (bring basket filters).Von's was a few blocks away for groceries. The house is on a busy street. Now Avalon is filled with golf carts and quite a few full-sized cars but the water was wonderful! The house was spacious for games and dining with a nice indoor/outdoor vibe.

Great place to stay. Loved the porch and all the amenities. House was very well kept and cute. Much larger than anticipated. Only issue was the beds. Need new mattresses. Overall though, we had a great time and liked the rental. Will use it again.

Pros and Cons

We stayed here for two nights. In terms of being close to fun things on the island, the location is great! But the street is extremely busy and very loud. The gas-powered golf carts are LOUD. And, lots of construction and large vehicles pass by. The house itself is super cute and charming, but is in need of a deep clean or maybe some paint and detailing. Lots of scuffs on the walls and wear and tear. It did, however, feel sanitary, and I could tell the regular cleaning crew was on it. Finally, the beds are HORRIFIC. I'm not sure why the mattresses haven't been updated, but they legit felt like the worst kind of 1979 springy, bouncy, just worn out beds. If this place got a deep clean and some new beds (the couch was pretty saggy as well), it would be a 10/10 spot for sure!

Close to everything

The location of the property is great! You can easily walk to grocery, restaurants, ferry terminal, snorkeling, and other activities. The house was very clean and comfortable and we ate all our meals at home at the table on the front porch. Even with warm temperatures outside, the house was very comfortable with the provided fans. We didn't have any problems with noise and everyone slept well. The only oddity it that you have to walk through bedrooms to get to the other bedrooms, so this house is best for families and not couples that may want privacy. Access to 2 full bathrooms was very nice. The only think that perhaps would have made our stay better was having beach chairs provided and maybe a couple bikes to use. Totally not necessary, but when we stayed at one of the hotels previously, we had these items provided and we loved it. The bikes really allowed us to explore more of the island without needing to rent bikes and go through that hassle.

Perfect location and floorplan!

We are a family of 6 and the floorplan and bed layout is perfect! The house is equipped with fans and once you open some windows the house stays nice and cool. Waking up in the morning, opening the double doors to the front porch was amazing! The house is located near town and only took a few minutes to get to everything we needed. We cannot wait to return! Thank you!

Convenient family home close to everything in Avalon

This probably is was perfect for four kids and my wife and I. Fairweather is close to everything Avalon had to offer. We enjoyed zip lining, snorkeling, hiking and kayaking in our four days on the island. The porch is amazing. The gas grill was a must! We grilled our dinner just about everyday. We would definitely stay at Fairweather in the future.

Lovely home for the weekend

The place was quaint but had plenty of room for the two of us. Very clean and had all the amenities you would need to cook and relax. Check in was easy. The property is a short 3-5 min walk to the main strip but further enough away to have peace as. Quiet at night. Will try to book property again.

Had a great experience at The Fairweather Cottage. Nicely stocked kitchen, comfortable beds, and the best part is the front porch where we hosted several gatherings of friends and family. We will be back!

Spring break trip to Avalon

The house was very clean and organized just like the pictures provided on the website. The location of the house was great, very close to restaurants and other places. Overall, an amazing house and place for a small getaway! Definitely would recommend renting this place!

Freaking amazing!!!!

This property was hands down the most amazing property we have stayed at. The location was perfect, the floor plan was exceptional, and the outside patio was a bonus for hangout. I would definitely stay here again and would recommend anyone who wants a home away from home stay feel.

Nice place.

The place was nice. A great location. The front porch was a bonus. We coukd sit outside during the rain. The floors were a little dirty. The toilet seat in one of the bathrooms was loose. There was no cloth or sponge to wash dishes. There were no extra dish towels. There was no hand wash or antibacterial wash for the kitchen and that's important right now with Covid. It just needs to be better taken care of between visitors. We also had ants in the kitchen so they dropped off some spray.

Great location and clean

We had a great time and enjoyed all the perks of this home. TV’s in all rooms with working cable and wifi for nextflix, etc. Washer and dryer were a plus to have on hand. The place was clean and offered lots of movies and games for the kids to play. The only issue we had were quite a few ants in all rooms and were even getting into our luggage.

Excellent Location!

Location is central and convenient; we stepped off the boat and walked 5 minutes to the cottage. Groceries, restaurants, beach...everything is within a short walk. We enjoyed our Thanksgiving meal at the dining table on the front porch (a unique experience!); there are portable heaters throughout the house so we moved a couple to the porch as it was chilly in the evening. There are doors accessed from outside to the two back bedrooms and bathroom. The pack-and-play and baby gates are a bonus with a toddler in our family. We enjoyed the board games; decor is pleasant; furniture is very comfortable. This is definitely a place we will rent again!

Good for disabled

We were looking for a house that would accommodate three people and a relative who has difficulty walking. This cosy cottage met most of our requirements. The biggest asset is the front porch that faces a busy street. This enjoyable addition kept our guest entertained while we were taking advantage of the many Avalon attractions. This porch is so close to the sidewalk that many pedestrians smiled and waved at her and a few even engaged in casual conversation.We ate all our meals outside at the large table provided there. Our other concern that this property met was that a bedroom and bathroom had be on the bottom floor, and that there was easy access into the shower, as opposed to stepping into a tub. Some disadvantages were that there are three steps to enter the cottage from the front and there is no railing. A side entrance is available but the one step to enter is steep. Also the floor is uneven. When approaching from the front, one must walk through a bedroom to access the back two bedrooms. A side entrance is available, however. The steps to the spacious upstairs bedroom are steep. The two available working box fans added to our comfort as it was hot. Although the furniture in the living room was old and uncomfortable, they were covered appropriately and the cottage was charmingly decorated. A land line phone is available in the upstairs bedroom which was very convenient as cell phone service is sporadic.

Super cute place!

Pros - The place was really comfortable and super cute. We rented it because of the porch and we enjoyed gathering there. It is really close to everything and it was easy to walk everywhere. The kitchen was nice and perfect to cook a couple of meals while we were there. Cons - The bedrooms are tandem, so if you are staying in the upstairs bedroom, you have to walk through two different bedrooms to get there. For a family this would not be much of an issue; however, if there are two couples it might be an issue for privacy. There is a sign at the front door to please not wear shoes on the carpet; however, the carpet was pretty dirty in the living room. While we really enjoyed spending time on the front porch, the furniture, mat, and table cloth folded on the table were really dirty. We had to wipe all of the chairs down and it would have been nice if the table cloth was clean. Because this is on one of the busiest streets, the traffic was really noisy during the day and luckily it quieted down in the late evenings.
