Power Plant Outage staffers: we have a special place for you; we've enjoyed your stays for 15 years.

Charming, well maintained spacious cottage perched high on the Calvert Cliffs of the Western Shore of the Bay with a 180 degree view! Watch bald eagles soaring by the cliff while ocean freighters and crab boats ply the waters of the Bay. This unique log home includes all the modern and tech conveniences yet retaining a whimsical atmosphere, decorated with world treasures, antiques and Miocene Era shark’s teeth.

Newly expanded upscale bathroom with glass enclosed shower/tub, marble tile surround, quartz vanity top; new Sony Smart TV, and high speed dependable wireless service to connect you. Open floor plan, so convenient for today's lifestyle. A family home, it includes a fully stocked kitchen, unlike typical rentals. Children enjoy the level back and front yards for play, games, and the loft.

You will find yourself nestled under a tall canopy of trees in a private country-club-like setting with two miles of white sand beach and fabulous recreational amenities. The 300 acre private community with its private paved roads, pristeen outdoor swimming pool, two excellent tennis/pickleball courts, boat ramp, and 5 hiking trails will engage your family in complete relaxation, all without leaving this protected and peaceful community.

The two mile sand beach (with tidal fluctuations) offers some of the best fossil hunting opportunities on the East Coast. Here you can stroll the beach and find pre-historic shark’s teeth and fossils. Families love the gentle surf and natural streams where children love to build sand castles and splash in the Bay’s sand bars, just a short 10-15 minute walk from the house. The beach offers lovely shade in the afternoon; a beach umbrella is included for your mornings. In addition, enjoy the community’s expansive South Beach within a 5 minute drive, where one finds picnic tables, parking, boat ramp, port-a-potty and foot bath. Bring your kayaks and canoes; there are wonderful opportunities to explore Parker’s Creek Nature Preserve just a short paddle north.

The open floor plan with cathedral ceiling living room has superb Bay views, comfortable seating and a computer table. The adjoining dining porch with screened Andersen windows seats 8 at table, and also offers a lovely conversation area where you can enjoy the constantly-changing water views or cozy up with a book.

Two comfortable bedrooms, one new 2019 with 12" memory foam queen, one with Euro-top full mattress, each with dresser and large closet, a pleasant sleeping loft with an upgraded double bed, and a single bed in the living room provide many sleeping options; accommodates 5.

Recently upgraded kitchen includes newer range, large refrigerator with ice maker, newer countertops, Blanco sink, and microwave. Cooks appreciate the incredible selection of spices, condiments, staples, cooking tools, pans, baking dishes, as well as table service for 8. A full size gas grill is convenient.

Entertainment features WiFi, Roku with Sling TV with a hundred channels including Showtime, BluRay for music and DVDs, and local telephone service. A sizeable collection of books and games await you.

Cooled by central air conditioning, and warmed by central oil-fired heat, you can be assured you will always be comfortable in this year-round non-smoking home. We do have a minimum age for our guests, children are welcome, and we ask that our guests board their family pets. Welcome to Stone’s Throw!

What a VIEW!

What a VIEW! Sunrises and Moonrises over the Chesapeake Bay - wow. Watch eagles and ospreys soar by at eye level. Walk the beaches an find fossil shark teeth and shells. Hike the woods and ravines in the community or next door at the American Chestnut Land Trust. Great for the nature enthusiast. The cabin is very cozy with wood everywhere, a loft and a stone fireplace. Very comfortable. Can sit at the table on the enclosed porch and view the Bay through the wall of windows. Fantastic place to stay.

Pleasant retreat

The cabin was a nice retreat. Its about 2 to 3 miles into the woods, up to a short cliff. It felt like a quiet respite, but was still close to all amenities in Prince Frederick. The cabin was clean and the view was beautiful. Typically, the owner requires the renters to bring their own sheets and towels which I had been unaware of. If one drives there, it may not be an issue okay. But it wasn't possible for us flying. The owner may make accommodation for you for those sheets and towels. The owner was nice and personable and communicated

Great Escape with all the comforts

This trip was flawless (other than me forgetting an important bag and having to go back home to get it!). Checkin was a breeze and the cabin was super clean with a well equipped kitchen. The decor has so many interesting things to look at but is not overdone or cluttered - I felt at home right away. Nothing compares to the view and seclusion. Since it was cold and wintery I spent lots of time sitting in the cozy porch chairs reading an excellent book. A true gem of a place!!!

Beautiful Cozy Cabin

This cabin is so cozy with a lot of homey touches. You can tell the owners love this property and take great care of it. We loved going down to the water looking for sharks teeth and found a bunch. We will definitely be returning here.

We had a wonderful stay for the 2nd time! Right on the bay with gorgeous sunrise views, close beach access (be ready for some serious steps though!). The host is very responsive to questions. Everything was exactly as advertised. We will be back…again!

A home away from home.

All the convenience of having multiple supermarkets, excellent restaurants, shops, parks and more but yet... retreat into an absolutely lovely community away from all the bustle (just a short drive!) Once in said community you can enjoy the spectacular cliffside views from a neatly apportioned log cabin. Log cabin you say? Sure but you won't be left in the technological past with super fast wifi, sling TV and all the appliances you will need in the fully stocked kitchen. Every year I go back and there are improvements. When you have the gumption you can saunter on down to the main beach (under a 5 min drive) for a stroll between the rolling waters of the Chesapeake and the beautiful Calvert Cliffs towering above. Watch hawks, eagles and other birds glide on the thermals hunting for prey (and diving into the water). On the rare occasion I have had any issue it was taken care of rapidly.

Stone’s Throw

Another great trip in the books. While we arrived at the same time as a tropical depression brought in rain, wind and high water - we were able to enjoy the beauty of Scientists Cliffs and this wonderful cabin. We did puzzles at the table, looking out into the bay – and the Eagles put on a fantastic show flying at our eye level. On Thursday, we awoke to a magnificent sunrise and the weather cleared up. We had a beautiful day on the bay. We can’t wait to return.

Chesapeake Bay Vacay

We had a very nice stay at this nostalgic cabin. We kayaked, hiked, did puzzles and cards and swam in the pool. We took a day trip to Annapolis. The only thing that we weren’t prepared for is not being able to get in the water due to the over abundance of jellyfish. Otherwise it was a pleasant family vacation.

Fossils at Scientists Cliffs

Family vacation. 2 boys, ages 9 and 11, who are talking about returning every year. Cottage was cute and we'll appointed. The walk to the closest beach was fine. Boating had to be done by driving to a different beach. The kitchen had everything we needed. Would have been great to have an outside plug to plug the Tesla into. Air conditioning worked great, but bed in loft was unusable because of extraordinary heat outside the week we were there, so my son slept on an air mattress on the floor. The "single bed" is not actually a bed but rather a daybed with thin mattress in the living room. Access to the pool was great, in a wonderfully run community. Would repeat a stay there if we were to return.

I have stayed here a number of times. Always love it. Very rustic and the peace and quiet are simply wonderful. When you live in a built-up, urban area, getting a chance to hear nothing but birds is a real gift. Already planning the next visit

Home run.

I run out of superlatives when describing the area. The natural beauty is superb, the friendliness of the people/community, the feeling that you are in the middle of nowhere but 10 minutes from a town that has everything you could ask for, a log cabin feel with embedded tech to keep everyone happy/connected, the wildlife, the view you wake up to every morning - and the one you see at night. There is also plenty to do within a decent drive in almost all directions. Every year there is a little improvements (or sometimes big) here and there but this place has not lost it's charm.

About the host

Host profile image
We are very fortunate to be the conservators of a waterfront home perched high on the cliffs of the Bay which our parents acquired in 1949. Our parents loved this magical place. We have extended their legacy by constantly maintaining and upgrading the comfortable log cabin. While the 1947 log cabin is original and authentic, it is warmed by oil heat, cooled by central air, and filled with modern tech conveniences. Since 2009 when we opened our doors to guests, visitors have enjoyed vacations and shared their stories of relaxing experiences at the cabin, on the beach, in the forested community. We look forward to providing a happy home for your family's next vacation.

Why they chose this property

We both spent our summers here while we were growing up. It is a unique environment. The beach and the ever-changing Bay always beckon us.

What makes this property unique

Stone's Throw is a unique home situated on a high cliff over the Bay where one can enjoy one of the best views on the ever-changing Bay and relax under the canopy of a virgin forest.
