About this property
Charming Historic Ocean Front Cottage on the Bay of Fundy
Escape to your very own paradise nestled along the Bay of Fundy. Nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts will love this tranquil coastal seaside getaway.
Built in 1899, Arcady has been lovingly maintained to capture her unique history, character and charm. While kitchen and 3 full bathrooms have all been updated, much of the home remains as it has been for generations. Filled with antique books, period carpets, and vintage quilts, uneven floors and the odd cracked wall, Arcady offers a unique opportunity to settle back in time and experience her special mix of old and new. The living area boasts an enormous wood burning fireplace, and wood stove, while also offering a heat pump. Antique bed frames boast brand new mattresses and comfortable linens, and many rooms let you wake up to a view of the ocean. There is a master suite on the main floor with a dedicated 3 piece bath. On the upper floor, there are four sleeping areas. Because the upper bedrooms share a 3-pice bath, which have dorm-style access to the washroom, this cottage would be best suited to families or close friends who can warm to some shared space. While there are many beds in the cottage, the occupancy is limited to allow for comfortable living in the space during waking hours.
Perched on 4 acres of private land, Arcady is on Passamaquoddy Bay, home to the highest tides in the world. Watching 25 foot tides rise and fall, you can enjoy eagles and osprey flying overhead while herons and gulls search for food in the tidal flats. Located at the end of a country road, Arcady offers peace and solitude, and plenty of space to roam. At high tide, you can fish, swim, kayak, or canoe right from the corner of the property, where the ocean meets the Digdequash River. The fire pit at the point is a great place for family fun, romance, or even a lobster boil, should you be so adventurous.
Outside, enjoy the private back deck and lawns with incredible water views on three sides. The large deck has barbeque, an outdoor dining table, and adirondack chairs - the perfect place to enjoy your morning coffee or star gaze at night.
Arcady is located just 15 minutes from the picturesque seaside town of St Andrews by the Sea, where you can enjoy whale watching, deep sea fishing, kayaking, hiking, the Huntsman’s Marina, Kingbrae Gardens, the golf course at the Algonquin, lovely shops, many great restaurants, and entertainment, Arcady is also a short drive to New River Beach, one of the longest sand beaches in the province, as well as a number of fresh water beaches. There is as much to do as you choose to do, but you will be hard pressed to every want to leave the deckchair as you watch the tides rise and fall.
Occupancy is limited to 8 people. Although children are welcome, it should be noted that there is water on three sides, a steep drop to the ocean in several places and, within, there are many spaces and objects that aren’t best suited for active toddlers. Please reach out to me if you have questions.
If you are looking for a pristine cottage, this may not be your choice. If you are looking for a relaxing getaway in a quirky vintage home with a deep sense of history, with an amazing oceanfront setting, let the whimsy of Arcady capture your imagination.
