The space
This contemporary home enjoys spectacular views across the Botanic Gardens to the harbour. The property is at the end of a steep driveway, but has drive-on access & garaging for 2 cars. It's a lovely 25 minute walk into the city through the gardens, or the bus stop is close by. The main floor comprises an impressive double-height foyer, open-plan lounge with vaulted ceiling, dining and gorgeous kitchen, as well as two spacious decks. Also on this level a dedicated office, cloakroom, toilet and access to the double garage. Stairs lead up to a mezzanine floor leading out to a huge tiled patio, complete with storage cupboard, bar-fridge and unparalleled views over Wellington.
All three bedrooms are on the lower level. The master suite is a private haven comprising a spacious bedroom with queen bed, sitting area (perfect for watching TV and relaxing,) tiled ensuite bathroom, walk-in wardrobe and a large balcony.
The second bedroom is a spacious double, with double bed, good wardrobe space and access onto a deck. Bedroom number three is a smaller double and comes with single bed with trundle bed stored underneath. This can be opened out to form either two singles or a full double. Good wardrobe storage and access onto a deck.
The large family bathroom is fully tiled, with spa bath and separate shower. There is also a laundry with tub, front-loader washing machine and tumble dryer.
The home is completely double-glazed, insulated and centrally-heated throughout, plus a separate heat-pump in the living area. Both bathrooms also have a heated towel-rail and secondary heating, ensuring comfort whatever the season. There is ample storage space throughout. As well as the patio and decks off the rooms, there is a further ‘garden deck’ for enjoying the birdlife.
Smoking or vaping is not permitted anywhere on the property.

About the host
Hosted by Paul

Hosts Paul and Bea are originally from England, but have lived in New Zealand since 1993. We built the property and moved into it in 2003 and we enjoy showing it off to our guests.
Why they chose this property
The property is close to the city, but you wouldn't know it when you look out of the windows at the spectacular views. There are a lot of hills in Wellington and we are on one of them looking across a valley to the Botanic Gardens. The city is just beyond the gardens. The Zealandia wildlife sanctuary is close by and we are blessed with wonderful birdlife in the area.
What makes this property unique
We worked with an architect to come up with the unique design of this house. The property is on the side of a steep hill and every room has access to an outdoor area and spectacular views. This does imply that the driveway to the property is steep, but there is a double garage with internal access into the house.
