About this property

"Any Excuse" - great cottage, great views, great beach access, great get away

Welcome to Any Excuse – our family beach cottage located in South Nag’s Head, NC (milepost 17.5). We named our cottage “Any Excuse” because, quite honestly, we will use any excuse to spend time in the Outer Banks! Our cottage is furnished with lots of personal touches and modern amenities to make you feel right at home. Public beach access is just a short walk from the cottage (1/2 block).

Any Excuse is a 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom cottage. The downstairs bedroom is furnished with a queen bed and has a screened in back porch. Upstairs, there is a large bedroom with a king bed as well as a smaller room with a queen bed. Linens are provided. Both upstairs rooms have private decks. Several air mattresses including a toddler size one are also available for use. There are two full baths, one downstairs and one upstairs with tub/shower combination in both.

We are equipped with free high-speed WIFI, 3 smart TV’s, and 2 blue ray players. The kitchen is equipped with stove/oven, dishwasher, refrigerator, microwave, toaster, Keurig and a traditional coffeemaker. Dishes, cutlery, glassware, pots, pans, etc. are also supplied. The dining area accommodates 6 and additional seating for 2 is available at the kitchen bar. Washer and dryer are located on the main floor. Our comfortable den area includes a full size couch, oversized chair with ottoman, recliner and single swivel rocker. There is a large deck off the dining/den with 2 porch swings, and 2 chairs. This deck faces the ocean and is great for relaxing at any time of the day.

There is a nice storage space on the ground level where you will find beach chairs, beach toys, outdoor games, bikes, and boogie boards. A propane grill is available for your use. There is an outdoor shower with hot/cold water for easy and fun clean up after a day at the beach. Our extra-large driveway allows for room to enjoy the hammock or create an outside entertainment area.

Another great stay

This is our second time staying at "Any Excuse" and my family will likely continue this tradition. The house is so comfortable and well stocked, plus it's just a block from the beach. It's a great location to go either north or south to sight see.... after getting a little too sunburned the first weekend. The kitchen is particularly nice with a recent remodel and well stocked pots/pans, spices, dishes, and standard condiments. There are numerous restaurant options within a 15 min drive. The bedrooms are also very nicely setup with extra pillows, blankets/sheets and blow up beds. Even with the rip tide warnings at the beginning of week, we thoroughly enjoyed walking on the beautiful beach toward Jennette's Pier. A great place to stay!

Outstanding!

The cottage was in an excellent location. A short walk to the beach or a short drive to the public access. Which also I had restrooms a plus. Lots of beach equipment to utilize and bikes that we rode on the path to a small local grocery store and to ice cream. Also, corn hole boards! For a little family competition. The cottage was super clean! And laid out well. Decks off every room for observation, sun exposure, screened in or swinging on the hammocks to enjoy a morning coffee or evening wind down. The beds were very comfortable and plenty of linens and towels. We were close to Fish heads, one of our favorite restaurants and manual for the lost colony outdoor theater. And Bodie Island lighthouse, which is a fun climb. Most Definitely a cottage, we would stay at again.

Great week in OBX

The house was well stocked with beach gear, bikes, etc. Lots of beach towels to use and a beach buggy were especially appreciated. Proximity to public beach access in an area that is not densely populated provided to opportunity to spread out on the beach we were hoping for. We would book this house again!

Fantastic getaway!

This property delivers on all fronts! The location is great - a block from the beach, and a Rescue station with bathrooms, right at the public access. Everything is provided, from linens to beach umbrella, wagon and chairs. It was impeccably clean, and the four decks provided lots of personal space. A wonderful place to celebrate our 30th anniversary! We will definitely be back!

Family destination wedding

Great location across from public beach access. Very clean and well stocked kitchen and bathroom supplies, as well as beach towels and equipment. Nice laundry room. Thoroughly enjoyed our visit.

Cold and rainy but great house

Maybe May wasn't the best time to visit, but despite the weather, the house was great. It was spotless, well-equipped, and a great place to relax. Public access to the beach was across the street and a short distance down. Would consider it again, though maybe picking a better weekend.

Perfect Weekend Getaway

My children and I loved our stay at Any Excuse. I chose this house partially due to reviews of how well stocked the house was. Our stay was short and I didn’t want to have to worry about packing a lot. Anything you could need for a beach getaway was available such as towels, blankets, dishes, etc. The location was perfect and the walk to the beach was easy. Overall very satisfied with our stay!

A wonderful time in the Outer Banks

We had a fantastic time in Nags Head! Any Excuse was immaculately clean, spacious and calm. We enjoyed the hammocks in the front porch and the screened one later in the day. This house is also a block away from the beach so you have easy access. Don’t worry about eating out because the house is well stocked with everything you need to make a nice meal at home. We will definitely be returning!

Wonderful vacation

We had a wonderful stay at "Any Excuse". The cottage was spotless and extremely comfortable. The kitchen was well stocked and very functional. We cooked most days using both the Weber gas grill and kitchen. The location was just a block from the beach access - very convenient. We appreciated that there was a blow-up bed and although we did not use, there appeared to be a crib, baby gate, etc for babies and toddlers. The storage room was well stocked with numerous beach chairs, umbrellas, a wagon, and tons of kid's beach toys. My family and I look forward to returning.

We rented this property because of its location and proximity to a larger beach home across the street which was being rented by family members. We quickly found that not only was this home the perfect size and location, but incredibly clean, comfortable, and outfitted with anything we could ever need and then some! 5 stars all around!

High light of the trip

For anyone looking for a great setup with everything and anything you could imagine for the beach. This is the house for you. This house made our vacation that much better. I would highly recommend this house to anyone looking to stay in OBX it has a great location to shopping and for traveling up and down the island. It was extremely clean and very welcoming.

No Excuse if you don’t book this Cottage

Very clean, great location (short walk to public beach), excellent host communication and follow up, includes linens and beach towels as well as all beach supplies you need. . They even had crib, high chair and safety gates for our 1 year old grandson. This was our first family trip and we will be back

Home Away From Home

Such an amazing stay! House was beautiful and it had more than you would ever expect. Grab your clothes and that is truly all you need! Very clean and well maintained! We stayed for a week and it truly felt like home! We have a big family, most are grown, except for two. We were able to have all our children and granddaughter with us for a weekend and the rest of the week we had 6 people that included my husband and I that fit comfortably. Beach access was close and stores and restaurants were close as well. We will definitely be continued guests! Thank you for sharing your beautiful home! We stayed June 10th-17th, 2023.

We came to Nags head for a friends wedding and stayed in “Any Excuse” for a family week at beach. The house was wonderful- had everything we needed. Unfortunately the weather did not cooperate!

Great cottage close to the beach!

We had a great week for our fall break. Cottage is as described in the listing and reviews - very homey and comfortable, very short walk to a gorgeous beach, stocked with all needed for beach days and a stocked kitchen if you are eating in. Owner quickly responded to our questions. Location is great. You can take a nice walk on the beach to Jeannette’s Pier. Bikes are available but we never got to them as we drove and explored further areas during the cool days we had. Porches are so nice to sit on with comfortable furniture and having the sliding doors open to let in the ocean breeze was amazing. Very comfortable bedding. If we are back in the area we would definitely stay here again! Also a lot of great places to eat nearby. Check out the piers for great beach and ocean views!
